Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! Post #1359

Wednesday, 23rd June 2021

"Darling, Rome wasn't built in a day, but let's see if I can conquer it in a tutu!"

Hello lovelies! It's your favourite pink tutu wearing, ballet-obsessed blogger, Emma, and guess what? I'm in Rome! That's right, my little tutu-loving heart has landed in the Eternal City and I'm absolutely besotted.

This week on Pink Tutu, I'm trading in my dance studio for the cobblestone streets, exchanging my ballet shoes for some fabulous gladiator sandals (can you imagine how fabulous a pink tutu and gladiator sandals would look?!), and swapping the smell of sweat and polish for the heady aroma of freshly baked pastries.

This is my first time in Rome and let me tell you, the place is absolutely magical! Even just walking through the streets, I feel like I'm in a movie. The grand buildings, the sunshine dappling through the leaves, the buzz of life everywhere you look - it's a real sensory overload, in the best way possible!

Speaking of overload, the food here is sensational! Every corner you turn, there's a little trattoria dishing out delicious pasta, steaming pizza, or a glorious, melt-in-your-mouth gelato. Iā€™ve already lost count of how many carbs Iā€™ve devoured. (Oops!)

Now, as you all know, Iā€™m an absolute sucker for history, especially ancient history! So you can bet your bottom dollar Iā€™m exploring every Roman ruin I can get my hands on. Yesterday, I spent the afternoon wandering through the Colosseum, marvelling at its sheer size and imagining the gladiators battling it out centuries ago. It was a bit of a surreal experience, standing in that arena, knowing that thousands of people watched gladiators fight for their lives there, while I, on the other hand, was just trying to get a good photo in my pink tutu, ha!

But even a pink tutu girl like me knows that a trip to Rome wouldn't be complete without a trip to the Vatican City! I'll be heading over there this weekend, fingers crossed I get to catch a glimpse of the Sistine Chapel - I hear itā€™s something truly special.

Of course, my shopping spree hasnā€™t started yet either! This weekā€™s post, however, is all about travelling in style, not retail therapy, darling!

But fear not, Iā€™ll have you all covered when it comes to shopping inspiration, too! Thereā€™s some incredible fashion sense to be found on these streets - think leather jackets paired with floral dresses, classic trench coats worn with sassy boots. Even the locals seem to have a ā€˜je ne sais quoiā€™ about their style. The colour palette, for one thing, is simply divine. You'll find deep rich browns and terracottas mixed with a splash of turquoise, and just the right amount of creamy white and dusty rose - perfect for channeling your inner Roman goddess! Iā€™ll be bringing you plenty of snaps of my fashion discoveries, obviously with my own little pink twist.

Oh, before I go! It wouldn't be a Pink Tutu post without a bit of ballet. I did manage to squeeze in a quick visit to Teatro dellā€™Opera di Roma this week. The building itself is spectacular ā€“ the theatre, like something out of a fairy tale. I actually managed to see a breathtaking performance of ā€œGiselleā€ featuring an incredible prima ballerina - the costumes were divine and I was so blown away by the level of athleticism and grace. It's moments like this that remind me why I'm so passionate about dance. There's something truly magical about the connection between the performer and the audience. And seeing these world-class performers work their magic, well, it leaves you speechless.

Oh, I have to mention the fact that this little blog of mine is, shall we say, self-funded! Thatā€™s right, I earn my living as a professional ballerina - performing, teaching and, of course, doing what I do best ā€“ inspiring others to wear pink tutus. As for my travels? I love to hop on trains (you know how much I adore those high-speed train rides!) so I keep my costs low. Who says travelling and ballet have to be expensive? Not me!

Of course, the whole point of all this is to encourage everyone, from little ballerinas to grown-up divas, to take a leap of faith and go on their own adventures!

So, until next week lovelies! Be sure to subscribe to the Pink Tutu blog if you havenā€™t already so you donā€™t miss a single post from my European adventures. Ciao, bella!

Emma x
