Pink Tutu Rome: #1362 – Dolce Vita & Dancing Dreams!

Ciao bella! It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another Pink Tutu adventure! And this week, I’m waltzing through the streets of Rome! I know, I know, you’re probably picturing me twirling in my pink tutu by the Colosseum, and let me tell you, it's almost as glamorous as you’re imagining!

This week, I traded my comfy train ride for a slightly less comfortable plane journey. That’s right, I took a flight over to Italy. I know some of you may have a hard time imagining me doing something so modern, especially with my love for classic trains. But honestly, sometimes you just need a change of pace! Plus, you can’t get any closer to a pink gelato than you can in Italy!

My adventures in Rome began with the iconic Trevi Fountain. I mean, what else could be more glamorous than tossing a coin into a fountain surrounded by beautiful statues and wishing for more dancing dreams? It was sooo romantic! And the fountain itself, even covered in scaffolding for renovation, is absolutely breathtaking.

After a leisurely stroll past the Pantheon and a quick stop for some deliciously decadent gelato (can you believe they even had a pink flavour? I mean, truly, the Italians know their pinks!), I made my way to the Spanish Steps. It was all I imagined and more – elegant, chic, and completely inspiring my wardrobe goals! Think crisp white, tailored linen pants and blouses with bright accents of fuchsia and ruby red!

I even snagged some beautiful pink fabric from a local shop for my next ballet performance outfit. Trust me, Rome is full of beautiful, luxurious materials and exquisite colours - perfect for making your own dreamy tutus, just like me!

On my second day, I took a trip to the Borghese Gallery and Museum. I’d heard tales of its stunning Renaissance sculptures and captivating artwork. I’d be lying if I said the art didn’t inspire me to start incorporating some classical ballet poses into my photoshoots – the dramatic stances and intricate details of Bernini's sculptures truly set my imagination alight. I swear I saw a muse in every corner!

I then walked down the romantic, cobblestoned street to the beautiful Villa Borghese gardens. What an afternoon! You could practically smell the dolce vita and hear the music of an unseen street orchestra in every flower blossom. It was the perfect setting to try out some slightly less glamorous dance moves. I just couldn’t help myself. I twirled among the flowers, spun like a ballerina on stage, and felt my spirit take flight amongst the Roman beauty!

Rome wasn’t just about art and culture for me though. Food has to play a big role! My ultimate Rome highlight was getting lost in the back alleys of the Trastevere district, discovering hidden restaurants and hidden pink gems along the way. That evening, I sat in the sunshine enjoying pasta and fresh vegetables (yes, there was an ample amount of fresh mozzarella, obviously!), soaking up the atmosphere of the bustling evening markets, watching life unfold. I just fell in love with its laid back, casual atmosphere and felt as though I'd stepped straight onto a film set.

But a trip to Rome wouldn’t be complete without experiencing the grandeur of the Colosseum. Let’s face it, there's something about ancient Roman architecture that just makes me feel inspired to do a dramatic arabesque, which is exactly what I did, feeling the ghosts of gladiators and emperors as I pirouetted around the ancient arena. It was simply stunning and surreal. I even managed to spot a little bit of pink amongst the worn stone – I tell you, Rome is truly full of surprises.

So, if you’re thinking about planning your own Roman escapade, let me give you a few little Pink Tutu tips:

Travel with your best ballet shoes! Rome is made for strolling. So lace up those sparkly ballet shoes (or ballet flats if your arches are not as tough as mine!) and explore every nook and cranny of the city!

Pack your pink tutu – always pack your pink tutu! You never know when you'll be struck with inspiration. There is no excuse to avoid bringing your favourite tutu, and if you happen to leave it at home, grab some gorgeous silk or satin in your favourite shade of pink (perhaps in the most incredible shade of hot pink available?) at a local shop and fashion one yourself! You don’t need much - just a ribbon and a dream!

Don't forget to dress for the occasion! I'm talking stylish, vibrant, and oh so feminine. Imagine linen blouses, chic skirts, and oh-so-trendy wedges that just cry out 'Pink Tutu' - think romanticism with a touch of fun and whimsy. You’re in Rome! Live it up!

Take advantage of all those picture-perfect spots. It’s not often that you have the chance to photograph yourself in front of the Pantheon or even a cute gelato shop (and trust me, you’re going to want gelato) - it is just such a classic and beautiful city, you can’t possibly go wrong. So whip out your phone, snap a selfie, or take a photo with someone you love - create memories, and capture those Pink Tutu moments!

Bring your ballet-loving soul! Every city is different, every experience is new! Every corner holds hidden inspiration for me. I’m not sure what awaits me in my next ballet adventure. But I do know this: I will continue to explore the world, one pirouette at a time, spreading the magic of tutus everywhere I go.

As for Rome, it stole a piece of my heart with its vibrant energy, beautiful art, delicious food and, of course, its charming pink corners.

Arrivederci! See you next week, where I'll be exploring another hidden corner of this beautiful world!

Emma xx
