Pink Tutu Rome: Post #1366 - Ciao Bella!

Wednesday 2021-08-11

Buongiorno from Rome, darlings! I’ve arrived, bags unpacked, pink tutu safely ensconced in its own dedicated luggage space, and I'm ready to conquer the Eternal City. This is my first trip to Italy, and it's been a whirlwind journey to get here. Let's just say my Derbyshire roots are deeply planted in the English countryside, so arriving in the heart of Rome with all its ancient history, bustling life, and exquisite architecture, feels a little like stepping onto a film set. It's a magical place!

It was a long journey, but you all know my favourite way to travel – by train! There's just something about the rhythmic clickety-clack and the passing landscapes that makes my mind wander. Of course, a pink tutu doesn't hurt either! I received several appreciative smiles, one curious stare from a gentleman who probably thought I was part of a fancy dress party gone awry, and a big hug from a little girl who had seen me pass through the carriage. It really is the ultimate travel attire, you know?

Rome greeted me with open arms - or at least, open arms are what I envisioned as I skipped off the train with my trusty travel backpack strapped to my shoulders, ready to soak up the atmosphere. This city, this history, these cobblestone streets - they beckoned! My heart skipped a beat as I passed the ancient Colosseum, feeling like a Roman princess about to embark on a grand adventure. It was like stepping back in time, and it only made me crave ballet performances set amongst the ruins of Rome even more! Just imagine: the gentle grace of ballet set against the backdrop of this ancient world! It's a ballet lover's dream.

Speaking of dreams, have you seen the fashion in Rome? My, my! It's not quite as extravagant as my pink tutus, but they’re certainly not lacking in style. Every street feels like a catwalk, and I just want to jump right in and dance a little waltz with the locals!

To be honest, I've only been in Rome for a few hours and already I’ve found a couple of shops bursting with gorgeous, stylish clothes. They’ve got a vibrant sense of individuality – just like me! My first stop is a boutique on Via Condotti, which promises “made-to-measure garments”, and I already have my sights set on a chic, floor-length, pink dress! The lady in the shop, Maria, seems like a kindred spirit - she’s already offered me some free tailoring advice, and it looks like I’ll be coming back here for more. I know, I know, I love my tutus, but a glamorous evening gown would fit nicely into my wardrobe, and maybe, just maybe, it could even inspire me to make a tutu in that same colour!

Tonight, my dearest pink-tutu fans, I’ll be catching a performance of "The Nutcracker" at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. Yes, that's right! The Opera! I snagged the tickets on my whirlwind tour of the city - a true sign that Rome really is a place where magic is in the air. It's going to be an unforgettable experience! It’s a bit of a change from my usual ballet shows – it's more elegant, with a sprinkle of formality, and the sheer history of the building just adds to the experience. I may not be a princess, but for the night, I can imagine I’m right back there amongst the Roman crowds who first witnessed its grandeur.

And what about my dance plans for Rome? You know I wouldn’t leave my dancing shoes at home! My mission, my darlings, is to discover hidden ballet classes throughout the city and spread the love of tutu, all while enjoying the best of Italian life. I’m already dreaming of a performance on Piazza Navona, with the fountains and architecture creating the perfect backdrop. Imagine how lovely a little ballet on that ancient cobbled space would look! If I can’t do a ballet class right there in the square, perhaps a private lesson at the Vatican museums will do, where the ancient frescos would create an ideal backdrop for a bit of ballerina fun!

Tomorrow, I'm hitting the Colosseum – yes, you know I'll be posing with a pink tutu, just like I did outside the Globe Theatre in London. The only thing I'm still deciding on is whether I'll be dancing a bit of a waltz whilst wearing a tiara. Maybe... or maybe not! Whatever I decide, it will definitely be a good day for tutu-themed photo-ops. I can't wait to see the reaction of the locals. And hey, maybe even a few pink tutus will make their way onto the streets of Rome, even if it's just for a day!

Catch me next Wednesday, darlings, with all the new tutu-spiration and fashion delights I pick up along the way! Remember, a life without a pink tutu is no life at all!

Until then, remember: always be kind, always be pink, and always embrace the magic of tutu!

Lots of Love,

Emma x
