Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! (Blog Post #1367)

Buongiorno, darling darlings! Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, back from the Eternal City, Rome! This week's post is a whirlwind of historical charm, delicious pasta, and (of course) pink tulle!

Let's start with the journey. I travelled, as always, by train. A slow, scenic journey through the Italian countryside is always the perfect start to a holiday. There's something so romantic about watching the world go by from a train window. And this journey was especially beautiful - imagine fields of sunflowers, vineyards basking in the Tuscan sun, and quaint little villages. I swear, I felt like I was in a scene from "Under the Tuscan Sun." Of course, my trusty pink tutu had pride of place in my luggage - always a statement piece, even when travelling through Europe!

Rome greeted me with open arms - the energy is simply electrifying. There's a constant buzz, a palpable history, and a sense of warmth that draws you in. I instantly knew this city was going to be my new favourite, and I can't wait to share it with all of you.

First stop - the Trevi Fountain!

The sheer grandeur of the Trevi Fountain, a cascade of marble and sculpted figures, is awe-inspiring. Itā€™s no surprise it's one of the most famous fountains in the world. This incredible sight drew crowds from all over, but somehow, everyone was completely mesmerised. Even my pink tutu got a lot of admiring glances, I swear the little cherubs on the fountain seemed to be smiling down on me!

On to the Pantheon:

Next, I found myself inside the awe-inspiring Pantheon, one of Romeā€™s most iconic ancient structures. Its dome, still the largest unreinforced concrete dome in the world, is a true marvel. I felt a profound sense of history as I walked through the open roof, a space thatā€™s been untouched since 126 AD, allowing the sky to gaze back down at the Pantheonā€™s majestic beauty. The incredible lighting was simply mesmerising - you can see why it continues to attract architects, historians and even ordinary tourists like me.

Shopping on the Via Condotti:

For a girly-girl like me, a trip to the designer streets of Rome is an absolute must. Iā€™m talking high fashion boutiques galore - Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, and Prada ā€“ and what was I going to do in all those shops, apart from wear my pink tutu, of course! I tried to limit myself to just a little window shopping - honestly, it's a treat for the eyes - but a couple of accessories snuck into my handbag. Who can resist an elegant scarf, or a pair of stylish sunglasses with pink frames, I ask you?! I may have splurged on a limited-edition Valentino ballet flat, because it just screamed pink tutu style!

Dining like a Roman:

Every day Iā€™m experiencing some delicious food, which I canā€™t help but say, ā€œitā€™s like a ballet for the tastebuds!ā€ Rome is a true culinary paradise. From traditional trattorias to gourmet restaurants, each meal is an exquisite adventure. Fresh pasta, crisp salads, and flavours that just explode on the tongue ā€“ I'm absolutely smitten. I had to sample some local delicacies like Roman artichoke hearts, and the truly authentic spaghetti alla carbonara - delicious. Of course, every meal was enjoyed with a glass of chilled Italian wine - perfect to complete my culinary ballet.

Performances in the Eternal City:

Speaking of ballet, how could I come to Italy and not experience some of its amazing ballet productions? My trip just wouldnā€™t be complete without a little ballet magic, so I booked tickets to see the incredible ā€œSwan Lakeā€ performance at the Teatro dellā€™Opera di Roma, itā€™s a must-see for every ballet aficionado! I even indulged in a ballet class - just for me and a handful of fellow dance enthusiasts - it was delightful and a little indulgent.

Pink Tutu Rome Inspiration:

Rome is a true testament to style and elegance, the history is in every corner, so of course, it's inspired my wardrobe! Think flowing white sundresses, silk scarves in jewel tones, and those fabulous straw hats for those sunny afternoons wandering through the ancient ruins. Every detail feels elegant. And I canā€™t help but think, pink tutu, pink tutu, pink tutu!

Pink Tutu Tip: Iā€™ve had some fantastic interactions with the local people of Rome, the friendly Italians really made my trip! If youā€™re a ballet lover, you might like to ask about some local classes. Theyā€™re often available and a lovely way to experience some cultural exchange.

See you next Wednesday!

So until next week, when I share more about my explorations of the Colosseum, and the Vatican City (my ballet shoes and I had a truly stunning visit there), I hope you'll all join me on this enchanting Roman adventure!

Ciao Bella!

Emma
