Ciao Bella! It's Emma from Derbyshire, England, reporting live from the cobbled streets of Rome! The air is thick with the scent of espresso and freshly baked pastries, and the sun is shining down, bathing the city in a golden glow. And of course, I'm here in my favourite pink tutu, ready to twirl through the sights and sounds of this magical metropolis!
This week's blog is a little bit different - it's a glimpse into my Roman adventure, full of sunshine, culture, and oh-so-much delicious food! You see, I'm a firm believer that travel should be sprinkled with a generous dose of 'tutu-tude' (yes, that's my latest creation!), and I've been determined to show everyone in this historical city what wearing pink tutus is all about.
It all began last week. I landed in Rome with a flurry of excitement and, naturally, a whole suitcase full of vibrant pink tulle. Rome, known for its ancient ruins and renaissance art, has become my stage - I can't resist finding a grand staircase, a dramatic fountain, or a picturesque piazza, and letting my tutu twirl in all its glory. It seems Rome loves pink! Every day, I find more and more people taking a double take as I dance my way through the city. Maybe theyāre thinking: āWhy is that pink tutu-clad English girl twirling on the Ponte SantāAngelo?ā Or āSurely, this pink ballet number isnāt out of place at the Colosseum?ā I guess I'll never know, but every curious look and friendly smile makes my day.
But don't think this Roman adventure is all about ballet! Of course, I've been to a couple of exquisite performances (you know, those things that keep my travel kitty well-stocked). This week I enjoyed an operatic spectacle at the Teatro dellāOpera di Roma - the energy in the theatre was palpable! The costumes were magnificent, and the musicā¦ simply breathtaking. But the highlight, as you might have guessed, was when I did a surprise impromptu performance on the grand staircase leading to the opera house - you wouldnāt believe the applause I received!

Day One: A Feast for the Senses
The minute I landed in Rome, I felt like I'd stepped into a culinary wonderland. The first thing that greeted my senses? A cloud of freshly baked pizza rising from the oven of a local pizzeria! It was divine! After checking into my charming little boutique hotel near the Piazza Navona (complete with a charming little balcony perfect for pink tutu selfies), I ventured out to explore. The streets were filled with the tantalising aroma of freshly ground coffee beans, the chatter of locals, and of course, the sweet melody of gelato trucks rolling down the avenues. Oh, the gelato! The sheer choice was enough to make me giddy!
Day Two: Walking in the Footsteps of History
Of course, I wouldn't be a true pink tutu traveller without making a pilgrimage to the iconic Colosseum. This massive ancient amphitheatre just took my breath away. Standing inside it, surrounded by echoes of gladiators and emperors, I couldn't help but feel transported back in time. And what better way to capture that magic than with a pirouette and some dramatic poses on the grand stone steps? (Note to self: definitely need a tutu with gladiator-inspired details for next time!) I even ventured into the Forum Romanum and wandered amongst the crumbling columns and ruins - I think I actually time-travelled! It was such a powerful experience.
Day Three: The Art of Fashion & Finding the Perfect Tutus
It's not every day you can boast about having Rome as your runway, but I'm living that dream! The streets are a feast for the eyes with a blend of fashion from chic, modern silhouettes to timeless Italian style. The Romans have such an innate sense of style, which just makes my job of showcasing pink tutus that much more exciting! Iāve been popping into all the vintage boutiques I can find, hoping to score some pieces that would perfectly complement my tutus, for even more extravagant performances and fabulous photoshoots!
Day Four: A Dip into Culture and Finding Inspiration
Today I discovered the wonders of the Galleria Borghese. This gallery is absolutely breathtaking, showcasing a remarkable collection of art. The beautiful statues, sculptures and paintings filled me with such artistic inspiration - it felt like I was stepping into another dimension, all filled with pink tutus of course! The light streaming in through the skylights, the opulent rooms and the artistry of it all made me dream of ballet stories I could dance.
Day Five: Shopping and Seeking Perfection
Where can you get the best shopping in the world? I say: Italy! From high fashion to charming independent stores, this city has everything a tutu lover could possibly want. And itās also the perfect place to source those adorable little vintage hats to add to my tutus ā and to give myself that little extra touch of femininity and style.
Day Six: Discovering Delicious Treats
As the week winds down, my Instagram is a glorious mosaic of delicious food, vibrant Roman piazzas, and of course, me, in all my pink tutu glory. Itās always such fun finding quirky restaurants tucked away in alleyways. This city is a culinary dream! From fresh pasta in Trastevere to steaming plates of spaghetti carbonara in Campo deā Fiori, Rome's cuisine is simply a feast for the soul! And letās not forget all those perfect cups of cappuccino that seem to appear magically wherever you go! Itās all a delicious part of the journey!
