Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! 🩰🇮🇹

Wednesday 2021-09-29 - Post #1373

Buongiorno from the Eternal City! I’m so excited to share my adventures in Rome with you all, my darling tutu-loving readers! As always, I’ve embraced my inner-ballerina and twirled my way through the city, armed with my trusty pink tutu, an insatiable appetite for all things fabulous, and a heart brimming with excitement.

Travel by Train: A Ballerina's Dream

This trip started in the most romantic way imaginable – by train! My train journey from Derbyshire to Rome was a blissful escape, punctuated by the gentle rhythmic click-clack of the rails and a symphony of passing landscapes. With a first-class ticket and a copy of "The Little Prince" nestled in my handbag, I settled into my seat and let the hours melt away. Honestly, there’s nothing quite as calming as travelling by train, especially when you can indulge in your own little world.

Rome: A City of Beauty, History and Shopping

The moment I stepped out of Termini station, I knew I was in a place unlike any other. The energy was buzzing, the air fragrant with the aroma of espresso, and the buildings spoke volumes of a glorious past. I was immediately struck by the city's undeniable beauty. It was like stepping into a scene from a movie, every corner whispering stories of ancient empires and grand gestures. And as I strolled through the cobblestone streets, I felt a surge of inspiration coursing through me, the kind that fuels a dancer's passion.

First Impressions of Rome

Before we dive into the details, let me tell you, this city truly does live up to its hype. I’m only a day in, and I’ve already experienced the intoxicating aroma of freshly brewed espresso, fallen in love with the intricately tiled courtyards, and felt the echoes of centuries past whisper in the wind. Rome is a symphony of senses, a vibrant tableau of history, culture, and art.

Shopping in Rome: Where Fashion Dreams Come True

What's a Pink Tutu journey without a little shopping therapy? This city is a treasure trove of beautiful clothes, designer boutiques and independent fashionistas. You'll find anything you need from traditional Italian tailoring to cutting-edge contemporary styles, with a vibrant mix of everything in between. My inner fashionista is already buzzing with ideas for my wardrobe! I’ve managed to snag a stunning, vintage-inspired blush-pink top and a pair of shimmering silver pumps that are just begging to twirl on a Roman cobblestone.

Today's Adventures:

  • The Colosseum: A Glimpse into History: This architectural masterpiece truly takes your breath away. It's hard to believe that the gladiators used to battle here in this enormous arena, their shouts echoing through the vast space. It's a humbling reminder of the rich history of this incredible city.

  • Roman Forum: The City's Ancient Heart: Just across from the Colosseum, the Roman Forum is another must-see for history buffs. Exploring the ruins of this once-grand city centre, it was fascinating to imagine life in ancient Rome and its powerful emperors.

  • Gelato Glory!: Okay, I can't resist the siren call of delicious gelato in Rome. I indulged in a heavenly mix of hazelnut, pistachio and vanilla gelato - a divine treat for a warm Italian afternoon! And for those of you who are new to this magnificent treat, trust me, the Italian gelato is an experience you have to have. It's like a dream in a cup - rich, creamy, and bursting with flavour.

The Pink Tutu’s Big Plan for Rome:

Now, what can I say, the real magic of this city lies beyond the obvious tourist traps. This city offers a delicious tapestry of local flavours, hidden cafes with stories etched in the patina of their tables, and little corners overflowing with vintage delights. So, today, I'll be embracing the heart of this vibrant city, with its enchanting back streets, and uncovering some local treasures!

  • A Visit to The Pantheon: The majestic dome of the Pantheon, an incredible blend of history and artistry, is one of the architectural marvels that leaves you breathless.

  • Exploring the Trastevere District: This is a neighbourhood overflowing with local charm, beautiful alleys, charming restaurants, and even more beautiful boutiques!

Tutu Time in the Trevi Fountain:

For all my lovely readers, here's a secret: you can find the most beautiful fountains all across Rome, but my absolute favourite, by far, is the Trevi Fountain. So, naturally, I had to twirl my pink tutu around its beautiful marble, soaking in the beauty and atmosphere. This is a must for every visitor, not just to see the magic of the fountain itself, but to witness the artistry of this historic city, woven with the most magnificent water features!
