Buongiorno, my darlings! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for a new Pink Tutu blog post - and what better way to kick things off than with a big, bubbly Ciao Bella from Rome, Italy! 🇮🇹💖
It's been a whirlwind of pink tulle and cobbled streets these past few days, and let me tell you, this city is everything I dreamed of. The history, the architecture, the gelato... it's all pure magic! And you can bet your bottom dollar that this tutu-clad traveller is soaking it all in with the same joie de vivre that you’d find at a particularly brilliant pas de deux. 🩰
This trip has been a long time coming, my lovelies. I've been planning this Italian adventure for months, carefully mapping out my must-see sights and dreaming about all the delectable dishes I’d be stuffing my face with. You know I adore exploring new cities by train; it's so romantic, and the rhythmic clackety-clack of the wheels is the perfect soundtrack for my whimsical, tulle-filled world. And what's more, I even managed to squeeze in a beautiful performance with the Accademia Nazionale di Danza in Rome. There's nothing quite like performing on stage, even if the applause is all for the elegant steps and graceful pirouettes, rather than for my stunning pink tutu!
This week’s blog post is bursting with stories, sights and sparkles. So grab a glass of bubbly (or maybe a nice strong latte - the coffee in Rome is heavenly!), get comfy in your favourite pair of fluffy slippers, and let’s take a trip through my Pink Tutu lens!
Rome, a City for Lovers (and Tutus)
Rome, oh Rome. This city is the definition of bella, from the ancient Colosseum that stands as a monument to the city's grand past, to the quaint, charming Trastevere district where cobblestone streets wind through the narrow alleys lined with charming cafes, vibrant flowers and little shops full of handcrafted wonders.
Did you know that this day, October 20th, is officially World Pasta Day?! It couldn't be more fitting! I spent this afternoon savouring some delicious homemade pasta in the shadow of the Pantheon. Oh my, the taste was divine. My tummy is quite happy!
And speaking of divine, I must tell you about the stunning Trevi Fountain. Just as the legend dictates, I tossed in a coin for good luck - after all, everyone needs a little bit of luck, even a girl who's rocking a tutu in the heart of Italy! I'm definitely coming back, even if I have to save up from performing in a couple more local ballet recitals to do so. The water here is magical.
A Shopaholic's Paradise
Where can I start, you ask? Rome is an absolute paradise for a shopaholic like me. You can find everything from designer labels and elegant boutiques to quaint vintage shops and colourful markets where the locals hawk their wares with passion.
Speaking of passion, you wouldn't believe the incredible array of vibrant fabrics I've stumbled upon. It's truly inspiring! There’s inspiration everywhere for the perfect outfit, whether it’s the latest fashions on the catwalk or a new vision for a fabulous new tutu design. And don’t get me started on the gorgeous silk scarves, hand-stitched leather handbags and chunky jewellery. I practically had to drag myself away from a charming little vintage shop where I discovered the most exquisite pink beaded clutch bag - just picture it, ladies!
Of course, a good pair of heels is a must-have for a true fashionista like me. There's just something about the click-clack of heels against the Roman stones that just makes me feel absolutely fabulous! So, needless to say, I had to indulge in a brand-new pair of statement shoes - bright pink, of course! They're perfect for dancing my way through this incredible city.
Ballet Under the Roman Sky
What could be more romantic than dancing in a city steeped in history? You might be surprised to learn that Rome boasts a vibrant ballet scene. It’s a city that embraces all art forms. I had the pleasure of experiencing a beautiful performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, a magnificent neoclassical theatre with a rich history that truly encapsulated the city’s elegant charm. As the ballet began, I felt like I'd stepped right out of a fairytale!
There was an electricity in the air, a tangible energy that seemed to permeate the very building itself. And it wasn't just the graceful movement of the dancers or the majestic music. It was the shared appreciation, the understanding between those gathered in the auditorium. The shared experience, the sheer beauty of it all. And let’s face it, it’s even more fabulous with a perfect pink tutu as your accompaniment!
The beauty of these performances has truly inspired me. Not just the artistry and artistry and dedication to movement but the way ballet can unite audiences. Perhaps that’s one reason that I’ve had so much success with my Pink Tutu campaign to get everyone in the world dancing – and wearing pink! I believe that everyone has a little ballerina inside them – and sometimes a little encouragement can help them find it!
Don't Forget the Pink!
Rome, in all its stunning glory, is the perfect backdrop for a ballerina to feel absolutely empowered! Of course, wherever I go, you can be sure to find my trusty pink tutu and my passion for all things ballet.
There’s been no shortage of smiles, giggles, and amazed looks on the faces of the people here – I am truly an international sensation! Even when my performance for a small community theater near Trastevere was met with a round of applause followed by a couple of hesitant onlookers asking me why I wore the pink tutu… it didn’t matter. What matters is my passion, and in sharing it with the world I feel like I am inspiring others to be their most authentic, best selves – and who wouldn’t be happier in a pink tutu!
