#PinkTutuRome: Week 1385: Dancing through the Eternal City!
Ciao from Rome, darlings! It’s Emma, and you know what that means – a whole new week of #PinkTutu adventures! This time, I’ve traded Derbyshire for the rolling hills and cobbled streets of the Eternal City itself. Rome, oh Rome – you’ve truly captured my heart with your ancient beauty, delectable cuisine, and, yes, even a healthy dose of glamour.
My week started, as always, with a ballet performance to fund my travels. I was dancing for a fundraiser at a beautiful little theatre in Chesterfield – so, the perfect place to be before embracing the theatrical grandeur of the Roman stages. My solo, set to the haunting melody of "Swan Lake", was well received. Always lovely to remind the locals about the sheer joy of dance.
The train journey down was a joy in itself. I always love the anticipation, the sense of adventure that a train journey evokes. This time, I packed my favourite, new, pink sequin bag with all the essentials - a touch of shimmering glitter for the bustling Roman crowds, a miniature bottle of my favourite raspberry and champagne scented hand cream (perfection for a girl on the go), and my very own pink tutu. A tiny pink tutu, of course! A subtle touch, never overdoing it – a pink tutu for all occasions!
As I settled into my compartment, I couldn't help but think of all the exciting moments ahead – exploring the Colosseum, strolling along the Spanish Steps, sipping delicious coffee on Piazza Navona… And of course, the absolute must – catching a ballet show at Teatro dell'Opera. It’s simply unthinkable to come to Rome without embracing its grand tradition of ballet.
Wednesday evening, and my feet are already weary! I've spent the day traipsing through the vibrant Trastevere district, picking up a handmade scarf (bright pink, naturally!) from a local market and watching street performers paint the atmosphere with vibrant melodies. Did you know that Rome boasts the world's first opera house, Teatro Argentina? Now that's what I call history! I'll be sure to take you inside next week!
Tonight, though, it’s all about indulging in Roman glamour at a real show! I managed to secure two tickets (of course, in pink!) to a captivating performance of Swan Lake. The music! The drama! The emotion! I was utterly spellbound, transported back to the dreamy lakes and mythical swans. Ballet in Rome? It simply doesn't get more beautiful!
Thursday has me savouring the dolce vita. Imagine… sunshine filtering through Roman architecture, the aroma of freshly baked bread in the air, the sounds of playful chatter drifting through ancient piazzas. It's as if Rome itself is serenading me! My shopping spree started this morning at a charming boutique tucked away in a charming back street. They had this stunning pink velvet jacket, and, well, you know me – I had to have it! Perfect for a glamorous Roman night out. And to add a little something extra, a silk scarf emblazoned with delicate pink rose prints! This is Rome, darlings, where even the details have a hint of romantic charm.
Friday was dedicated to the iconic Colosseum! Such an amazing feeling walking amongst the remains of history. The Colosseum is the largest ancient amphitheatre ever built. The atmosphere there is truly something special. Imagine, thousands of years ago, gladiators were fighting in this very arena. What a powerful and poignant thought. It’s hard to fathom the sheer magnitude of ancient Rome. Even my pink tutu (oh, it was with me the whole time!) seemed dwarfed by this architectural marvel.
Oh, speaking of which, let's take a minute to talk about pink tutus. The ultimate accessory! There’s a certain magic about them, don’t you think? Whether it's twirling in a grand ballet performance or simply taking a stroll through the ancient streets, a pink tutu instantly elevates your outfit. I find myself wanting to spread the pink tutu love throughout the city – envision the streets of Rome brimming with graceful twirls and delightful pinks. Perhaps, one day…
Saturday, and I finally found myself in the Vatican. Now, let’s face it, Rome’s a place where one must have an afternoon admiring the grandeur of the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo, that man! I can’t tell you how many wows and oh my gods were muttered under my breath. What an unbelievable, moving experience. I had a brief moment to take in the incredible detail in the ceiling. That masterpiece would keep anyone glued to the spot for hours. And to think, someone had the nerve to do all of that, using brushes and paint. Amazing. The Vatican Gardens, with their fragrant blossoms and lush green pathways, were equally stunning, offering a beautiful escape from the bustle of the city.
Later that afternoon, I decided to spend an hour at the incredible Teatro dell'Opera. It’s truly one of the most stunning venues I’ve ever witnessed. A marvel of neoclassical architecture, decorated with breathtakingly beautiful artwork and intricate details. It truly encapsulates the essence of grand, Roman theatre! The sheer history that emanates from the theatre is almost tangible, it seems to hum and whisper tales of past performances, echoing in the halls. And as I stood under the breathtaking crystal chandeliers, I thought to myself, there is no better place to be a ballet enthusiast than here, in this magical building!
And so, I spent my Sunday in the heart of Roman elegance! Imagine… sitting in a small piazza in the Trastevere district, sipping an espresso, watching the world drift by – and all whilst clad in my most stunning pink tutu. Because, darling, every day should be a stage for your own performance. It's the little moments of magic that make Rome truly enchanting!
Ciao from the Eternal City! This is a place of eternal wonder and endless adventures. Rome has captivated my heart with its history, art, culture and passion. I hope you’ll join me on my next Pink Tutu adventure!
