“Every day is a performance, darlings, so why not wear a pink tutu?" - Emma
Ciao from Rome, lovelies! I'm writing this from my perfectly pink hotel room overlooking the Colosseum. You know how much I adore a good bit of history, and this ancient wonder just calls to me like the sweet melody of a Tchaikovsky score. Speaking of which, did you know December 29th is Tchaikovsky Day? Now you know, my darling readers.
I just have to share with you all about my Italian adventure, starting with the magnificent journey from Derbyshire, England, by train! Yes, the train! I adore the leisurely rhythm of a long train ride, allowing my mind to drift away in daydreams, imagining myself pirouetting under the Italian sun.
You all know my travel rule: every new adventure is fuelled by the love of ballet! And as always, my trusty pink tutu and I are on the go. As I sipped my cappuccino in a Parisian cafe during a layover, a charming gentleman wearing a fetching pink fedora complimented me on my "ravishingly vibrant" tutu. See? Pink is the new black!
But darling, let's talk Rome! The air is buzzing with festive cheer and laughter, and the shops are simply divine. I found myself at a little vintage boutique nestled near the Trevi Fountain - oh, I do love a fountain! - and fell in love with a silk scarf, an intricate paisley pattern adorned with playful fuchsia embroidery. My bag now carries a hint of Italian sunshine, a little bit of romantic elegance that perfectly complements my bright pink tutu, don't you think?
Speaking of the Trevi Fountain, my dears, this place is magical! The air vibrates with history and whispers of stories lost to time. Of course, I followed tradition, tossing a coin into the water - I tossed three, actually! One for good fortune, one for a happy dance, and one to return again, naturally!
Last night, I watched a spectacular show at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. The production of "La Traviata" left me spellbound. I practically levitated back to my hotel on a wave of emotion, feeling the resonance of this tragic masterpiece in my bones.
This morning, I took a delightful walk along the Tiber River, its waters reflecting the golden light of the rising sun. I took in the iconic Ponte Sisto bridge, with its history dating back to the Renaissance period! Every brick speaks of an artist's brushstroke, a painter's vision, a storyteller's whisper. And then, to round off this day of absolute beauty, I popped into the Palazzo Barberini, its gilded halls whispering stories of princes and poets. Oh, my dears, the grandeur! It took me straight back to my childhood, when I'd imagine myself in opulent ballrooms, twirling beneath chandeliers in a grand, graceful waltz!
The Roman Splendor
Rome is a sensory feast, an overwhelming tide of history, culture, and romance, and I can't wait to explore it further. I'll be taking you along, of course. We'll indulge in decadent Italian food - oh, the pasta! -, shop till we drop, and explore hidden corners where time stands still.
Oh! Did I mention my latest acquisition? I found a magnificent feathered boa in a charming boutique nestled down a narrow cobblestoned street. I felt the tingle of delight as I draped its emerald plumage over my pink tutu. It's simply magnificent, don't you agree?
I will continue my adventure tomorrow, exploring the captivating Castel Sant'Angelo, its majestic form etched against the Roman skyline.
Do stay tuned, lovelies, as I unveil the vibrant stories of this fabulous Italian journey on Pink Tutu this week. Remember, my darlings, you don’t need to be a ballerina to wear a pink tutu - we all deserve a touch of pink, a dash of flair in our lives. Wear pink, my loves. Wear pink proudly!
Yours in Pink and Twirls, Emma
