#PinkTutuRome: Ciao Bella!

Post #1388: Wednesday, January 12th, 2022

Itā€™s officially #PinkTutuRome week on the blog and Iā€™m practically pirouetting with excitement! šŸ‡®šŸ‡¹

This week, I've swapped the cobbled streets of Derbyshire for the cobbled streets of Rome! My trusty pink tutu travelled with me by train of course (because who wants to risk creasing their tulle in a suitcase?!) and is already getting a lot of stares here. I mean, how can you not stare at such a vision of pink fluffiness? šŸ’–

But seriously, Rome is already enchanting. I feel like I've stepped onto a film set, and I'm not even sure what film it would be! Imagine, a glamorous and decadent period drama with a dash of Roman history and a whole lot of sunshine.

And the shopping? It's a shopaholic's paradise, that's for sure! There are beautiful, hand-stitched tutus just begging to be twirled in. I've been scouring the boutiques for the perfect one for tonight's ballet show at Teatro dell'Opera. It's an absolutely legendary venue, and I can't wait to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the magical performance.

Speaking of atmosphere, it's that kind of captivating Italian magic that is really getting me going this week. Everyone seems to be in no rush, savouring each bite of their gelato and every breath of that sun-drenched air. The Romans really know how to embrace life with an elegant kind of joie de vivre, and itā€™s infectious!

So, hereā€™s my itinerary for the week, because I know you all want the juicy detailsā€¦:

Wednesday (January 12th):

  • Morning: Arrived in Rome! After the most comfortable train journey ever, complete with a couple of practice pirouettes in the carriage (no one noticedā€¦much), I checked into my hotel and immediately hit the cobblestone streets in search of the perfect Italian lunch. Of course, it included pasta. You just can't travel to Italy and not devour some of the most divine pasta in the world, right?
  • Afternoon: Shopping spree at the trendy boutiques! Honestly, the colour and the fabrics - I just had to find a little something to commemorate this Roman adventure. I found the most gorgeous floral embroidered blouse ā€“ the colour of a blushing sunset ā€“ and the perfect pair of white ankle boots. Who can resist a bit of sartorial self-indulgence in a city that makes every corner a beautiful fashion display?
  • Evening: Ballet at the Teatro dellā€™Opera di Roma! A truly dazzling night filled with music and movement. I always get goosebumps watching the professionals execute every jump, every pirouette with such grace and strength. It's truly inspirational, and the whole experience was just breathtaking.

Thursday (January 13th):

  • Morning: The Colosseum. Itā€™s truly incredible. To be walking where gladiators and emperors once trod - it's like history is coming alive. And the sheer scale of the structure is mind-blowing. This incredible monument speaks of a history that feels tangible and real. I even had a mini ballet class right there, using the Roman ruins as a backdrop! You can only get away with that when you wear a pink tutu, darling. šŸ˜‰
  • Afternoon: The Trevi Fountain. And just like everyone says, itā€™s a magical experience! Itā€™s absolutely dazzling, even on a slightly drizzly afternoon (good job Iā€™d packed my waterproof ballet shoes!), and it's no surprise people are captivated by its beauty. This place exudes romanticism, making you want to turn your life into an Italian fairytale. The coin toss ritual had me thinking about wishes for my next travels! I'm already planning the next trip!

Friday (January 14th):

  • Morning: The Vatican. Holy cow, what a sight! The St. Peter's Basilica is truly awe-inspiring ā€“ massive, detailed, and every surface feels touched by history. Itā€™s like a palace of religious art and beauty, all bathed in an ethereal light. It made me realise that even as a ballet girl who twirls around in pretty dresses, there's so much beauty in the world beyond the stage and the sequins.
  • Afternoon: More shopping, because a ballet girl always needs new outfits. You can never have too many tutus, right? But for now, I'm off to search for some stylish, classic ballet-inspired shoes. Maybe some heeled ballerinas? The shopping never truly ends!

Saturday (January 15th):

  • Morning: A little bit of rest and relaxation in a charming little cafĆ© ā€“ because even ballet girls need a break from their routine! The scent of freshly baked pastries and that Italian sunā€¦bliss! I'm treating myself to a delicious breakfast and a whole lot of daydreaming about the beauty of Rome.
  • Afternoon: The Borghese Gallery. I canā€™t believe how exquisite the art is, it's simply divine. The sculptures were the most enchanting, the marble, the artistryā€¦ I felt like I was walking through a history book. But you know whatā€™s a fantastic companion to the world's greatest sculptures? A vibrant pink tutu.

Sunday (January 16th):

  • Morning: Exploring the Pantheon ā€“ one of the oldest buildings in the city! I found myself taking deep breaths and just feeling awed by its history. That domed ceiling! The perfect balance of beauty and ancient Roman strength.
  • Afternoon: A stroll around the gardens near the Vatican - oh the greenery! It was just what I needed after all the beautiful marble and historical wonder. It was relaxing, inspiring and just the perfect setting for a dance rehearsal, donā€™t you think? šŸ˜‰

Monday (January 17th):

  • Morning: A leisurely cafĆ© latte in a quaint Roman street, absorbing the atmosphere, and making mental notes for my next blog post. (This one is just for you guys, so let me know if you like it, because I really want to share my passion for travel!)
  • Afternoon: A long train journey home. Sad to be leaving Rome, but I'll be reminiscing about its beauty for weeks to come. The train journey is going to be great for planning out future adventures though. You see, I've caught the travel bug, big time.

And itā€™s going to take more than a bit of train travel to keep me from planning my next ballet trip! I'm dreaming of dancing in a Paris cafeĢ next, maybe under the Eiffel Tower? Now thatā€™s an outfit worth thinking about... šŸ©°

Iā€™m Emma from the pink tutu, signing out. Until next time!
