This Wednesday, I'm whisking you away to the enchanting city of Rome! ✨ This stunning Italian metropolis is calling to me like the music of a Tchaikovsky ballet – all glorious drama, intricate beauty, and passionate flair. And trust me, my pink tutu is ready to twirl!
As you know, my wanderlust is as strong as my love for ballet. This trip was funded by my latest performance at the Derby Theatre - my version of Swan Lake got rave reviews, and it even featured a surprise finale where all the swans wore… you guessed it! Pink tutus. 😉 Anyway, after that whirlwind of feather boas and graceful leaps, I boarded a train for the eternal city – can't a girl be romantic?
Travel by Train: A Tutu-tiful Journey
The Eurostar was my chariot to Italy, and I must say, there's nothing quite as dreamy as watching the landscape transform into rolling hills and olive groves from your window. It's a bit like a real-life version of that train journey in The Italian Job, except I traded the Mini Cooper for a charming, comfortable carriage, and my “treasure” was a whole suitcase filled with pretty pink outfits! 🎀 It’s so nice to travel this way, you can soak up the scenery and enjoy a glass of wine without the stress of driving or flying. Plus, there’s something wonderfully vintage and glamorous about train travel that fits perfectly with the fairytale theme of my pink tutu journey!
Rome's Romantics and My Pink Tutu Love Affair
Rome's got it all - stunning architecture, romantic piazzas, and even the sweetest gelato imaginable. 🍨 But what truly sets it apart for me? It's the ballet, my dears! Italy has such a vibrant history with dance, and Rome is no exception. The Teatro dell'Opera di Roma is a grand masterpiece, and they have a spectacular lineup for January, with ballets from the classical masters like Giselle and Swan Lake.
The Fashion of Rome: Pink Power!
As soon as I arrived, I realised this city loves colour. I mean, imagine walking into a wardrobe overflowing with crimson, gold, emerald, and, of course, my beloved shade: PINK! It's an inspiration for any ballerina on a mission to bring the world more tutus! I’ve been hitting the vintage shops along Via Condotti to find the perfect pieces to accessorise my ballerina look, and believe me, I'm absolutely spoilt for choice. My trusty camera has been snapping photos of every gorgeous pastel-coloured gown and fluffy pink coat I can find, just for you! And what’s a Rome adventure without some fabulous Italian designer bags?

St. Peter’s Basilica: This place is an absolute masterpiece. The architectural grandeur will take your breath away, and the history there is simply breathtaking! (And trust me, the basilica makes the perfect backdrop for a dramatic tutu shot!)
Pantheon: It's like stepping back in time to a world of emperors, gods, and… yes, you guessed it - spectacular architectural feats! This amazing building is simply jaw-dropping!
Colosseum: The epic scale and the stories of the gladiators leave me in awe, like one of those epic ballets, filled with drama and action.
Trastevere: The most adorable little neighborhood with cobbled streets, hidden cafes, and authentic Italian charm. This is the place to truly get a taste of the city’s laid-back, romantic soul.
A Delicious Symphony of Flavors:
From classic pizza to creamy gelato, and hearty pastas with flavors that sing like a tenor, Rome’s culinary scene is just as stunning as its architecture. The streets are an aroma-filled sensory experience, with bakeries boasting freshly-baked bread and cafes serving perfectly brewed espresso. I’m dreaming of sitting under the warm Italian sun, surrounded by the enchanting smells of basil, oregano, and the irresistible aroma of tiramisu! I've got my ballet shoes on, but my stomach's got a date with pasta!
