#PinkTutuRome: A Twirling Adventure in the Eternal City! (Post 1401)

Ciao bella! It's your favourite Derbyshire ballerina, Emma, back with another adventure, this time straight from the heart of Rome! Oh my gosh, you guys, Rome is just breathtaking! The cobblestone streets, the ancient ruins, the incredible food... I could get lost in this city forever. This week's post, just for you lovely lot, is all about my #PinkTutuRome adventures, and believe me, it's been a whirl(wind) of a time!

Rome, a City for Tutu-ing Around

It wouldn't be a Pink Tutu adventure without a splash of colour, right? This week, I'm wearing a vibrant fuchsia tulle tutu, a perfect shade for a city bursting with sunshine and culture. You know how much I love a good train journey, and the Eurostar to Rome was a joy. I even had a chat with a sweet Italian lady who told me she was going to see her grandchildren! We bonded over our shared love for the grand old ladies of European travel.

I settled into my adorable hotel room, a quaint little haven tucked away in a quiet backstreet, and popped my head out onto the balcony for a little stargazing. Just imagine – the Colosseum glowing in the moonlight, an Italian tenor serenading in a distant courtyard... pure movie magic, right?

A Taste of History and Deliciousness

Speaking of movies, I started my Roman escapade by making a pilgrimage to the iconic Colosseum. Now, I don't usually like crowds, but this was different. Standing within those ancient walls, I felt a tangible connection to the past, a feeling of wonder at how many stories those stones have witnessed. And to top it off, a cute little street artist sketched a miniature picture of me in my pink tutu – you can just imagine how well that'll fit in my photo album!

From gladiators to gourmet, the day progressed with a delightful exploration of Roman food culture. Pasta? Oh yes, plenty of pasta. I tried the famous carbonara and even got a bit adventurous with the spaghetti cacio e pepe. My Italian wasn't as fluent as I hoped, but who needs words when your plate is overflowing with heavenly flavours?

A Night Under the Stars (and the Colosseum!)

After my food frenzy, it was time for the star attraction – an evening performance at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma! The grand opera house, beautifully adorned with frescoes and a touch of Italian grandeur, held an amazing performance of "La Bohème". Now, I’ve been a dedicated ballerina since I was a little girl, so seeing these skilled singers, the elegant choreography and the beautifully crafted sets truly transported me. I might have even shed a tear (or ten!) during the finale, just ask my travelling companions, my beloved pink tulle tutu, and the gentleman sitting next to me who even offered me a tissue.

After the performance, I grabbed some gelato and wandered back towards my hotel. Walking under the moonlit sky with the Colosseum lit up like a giant Roman jewelbox? It was magical! It truly felt like I was living inside a storybook.

Exploring Beyond the Centre

Wednesday mornings always feel like the beginning of a brand new adventure, and I began this day with a wander through the Trevi Fountain. As usual, I tossed a coin in with a wish for more fabulous travel opportunities, because who wouldn't want more of this?! Afterwards, I strolled through the Pantheon, a magnificent temple to all the gods. A feeling of calm and awe swept over me as I gazed at its vast, open dome and intricately crafted walls.

After all that sightseeing, it was time to treat myself to some retail therapy! Rome, just like London, is a shopping heaven. I picked up some beautifully hand-crafted tutus for my little ballerina nieces. You know I can't resist adding a little pink magic to everyones’ lives!

Ballet Street and Beyond

Later that day, I found myself in a truly unexpected treat: a Ballet Street performance near the Campo dei Fiori market. I can’t deny it, I’m addicted to anything that involves dancing and pretty costumes. Imagine my delight when a local street group popped up, showcasing the beauty of ballet amidst the charming cafes and colourful flowers! These street performers were captivating. Their dedication to their craft and their joy in bringing ballet to life even in an unexpected setting, left me absolutely enthralled.

The rest of the day was filled with wanderings and explorations, each turn revealing a new charming hidden gem. We stopped for some espresso at a family-run café, where the espresso machine sounded like a small symphony, and enjoyed the authentic Roman flavour of the local pastries. I even learned how to say "Grazie mille!" and "Buon appetito!" from a kind gentleman in a charming antique shop who told me to visit the catacombs. "Truly inspiring,” he said, “but be warned, it’s a lot darker than a performance!”

Pink Tutu Power!

Now, before you go thinking this was just an exciting ballet journey, let’s talk about the mission I mentioned before – Pink Tutu Power! My aim, remember? Get the world wearing a tutu! And, of course, Rome wasn't escaping this. During my wanderings, I popped a few Pink Tutu leaflets into some local cafes and even chatted up some curious folks on the street! They looked at me like I was crazy, but I had a great time anyway! Honestly, who doesn't like the idea of some sparkly tulle to brighten up their day? It was fun spreading my pink love!

As the sun dipped low on the horizon, painting the Roman sky in vibrant hues, I knew it was time to say “ciao for now” to the city that had captured my heart. The experience had been magical, an unforgettable dance amongst ancient beauty and bustling streets, punctuated by the perfect notes of an Italian operatic masterpiece.

Don’t worry, though – there are many more adventures to be had! Tune in next Wednesday for another Pink Tutu adventure!

Until then, stay sparkly and never forget the power of a pink tutu! And of course, don’t forget to leave a comment and share your own adventures!

Love,

Emma xo
