Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! #1402
Wednesday 20th April 2022
Buongiorno from sunny Rome! It's your favourite tutu-wearing traveller, Emma, bringing you all the pinkest and most fabulous happenings from the Eternal City. I'm absolutely thrilled to be here, the air buzzing with history, romance, and the sweet scent of gelato (my absolute favourite).
I've arrived in Rome after an absolutely glorious train journey. You see, nothing makes me happier than gliding through the countryside, gazing at rolling hills and vineyards whizzing by. Plus, it's the perfect excuse to slip on my pink tutu (my travel tutu, naturally โ it's slightly less sparkly and has pockets for all my essentials) and dance in the train aisle! Okay, maybe just a few pirouettes, a little jetรฉ... but the other passengers do seem to enjoy it, giggling and clapping. The conductor, a charming older gentleman, gave me a knowing wink and said, "That's the way to travel, signorina!". So, yes, the train was certainly a magical way to reach the heart of Rome.
From Train Tracks to The Colosseum
Stepping off the train, the sights and sounds of Rome immediately hit me. I was in awe of the grand architecture, the charming cobblestone streets, and the lively buzz of life in every corner. The scent of coffee, freshly baked bread, and even a hint of orange blossoms wafted through the air, adding to the magical atmosphere.
My first stop? The Colosseum. It was even more impressive in real life than in the pictures โ a majestic amphitheatre that whispers of gladiatorial combat and Roman power. It's an awe-inspiring place and made me think of all the ballerinas who have probably graced these very grounds centuries ago, dancing to enthrall emperors and noblemen. (Think of it! A performance that lasts over two thousand years, that's the power of art, and, of course, tutus).
Fashion Frenzy
Later, I decided to venture into the vibrant fashion heart of Rome โ the Via Condotti. Here, a sea of chic boutiques lined the cobbled streets, displaying the finest Italian fashion. I had to resist the temptation of designer dresses, handbags, and shoes (the shoes!) โ all shimmering with Italian flair. However, I couldn't resist indulging in a couple of pairs of fabulous earrings, and, of course, a delicate pink feather boa (perfect for twirling amidst the ruins later!).
After all that shopping, I rewarded myself with a delicious gelato - creamy, dreamy, and oh-so-pink! (You didn't think I could resist the pink, did you?) I settled on a pink grapefruit flavour - so refreshing and perfect for this hot Italian summer.
A Night at the Opera
This evening was reserved for a cultural treat: an opera at the Teatro dellโOpera di Roma! A dazzling spectacle! From the glittering costumes and breathtaking stage designs to the power of the performers' voices, it was truly a mesmerizing experience. Seeing an Italian opera live really is something else, and the energy in the auditorium was electric. It filled my soul with inspiration. The only downside? No tutu on stage, although the graceful movements and choreography inspired me to add a bit more sparkle and twirls to my walk later that evening, in a much-deserved dance down Via Veneto!
The Perfect Evening
After the opera, I dined at a small but charming trattoria tucked away in a quiet cobbled alley. The warm ambiance, the aroma of fresh herbs and sizzling pasta, and the friendly chatter of the locals โ this was true Roman charm. It reminded me that life is best enjoyed when shared with good company and good food!
I finished the night with a leisurely stroll by the Trevi Fountain. Its grandeur under the moonlight was a perfect end to a whirlwind day in Rome. Tossing a coin into the fountain (for luck, of course, to keep the pink tutus flowing!), I felt a profound sense of peace and contentment.
The Tutu Travels On
This was just a sneak peek into my fabulous Roman adventures! So far, the city has captivated my senses and inspired my imagination, with its history, fashion, and cultural abundance. The warmth of the people, the beauty of the city, and the feeling that Rome will welcome you with open arms made it truly magical. But of course, I couldn't resist sharing a bit of Derbyshire magic too, by adding a bit of pink tutu to this incredible city.
Stay tuned for more pink-tutu-tastic adventures next Wednesday, as I explore the ancient wonders of Pompeii and explore more of this magnificent Italian city!
