Pink Tutu Rome: Post 1414 - Ciao Bella, Italia! 🇮🇹 💖
Wednesday, 13th July 2022
Oh, hello darlings! Emma here, reporting live from the Eternal City! Yes, I'm finally in Rome! It was a rather long train journey from Derbyshire, and I confess, even though I adore train travel, I did miss my comfy, pink tutu-laden carriage. But the journey was worth it for the moment I saw the Colosseum, the very epitome of ancient Rome, rise up like a giant, majestic shadow against the Italian sun.
It was a bit of a mad scramble getting from the station to my hotel, but let's be honest, a bit of chaos adds to the adventure, don't you think? Besides, I had my trusty travel tutu packed in my suitcase, and I've learned from years of travelling with a tutu that, with a little bit of positive energy, even the most stressful situation can be made a little bit magical!
Speaking of magical, I have a secret to share – you've got to check out the "ballet shoe" shops around Rome! It's practically a whole new world! There are little independent shops tucked away on cobblestone streets, bursting with delicate point shoes and satin slippers, all of them perfectly arranged like tiny ballerina dreams. I bought a beautiful pair of pale pink point shoes with little ribbon bows on the front, they were simply irresistible.
This evening, however, the big event was a fabulous ballet performance. I knew this show was going to be incredible, it featured the famous ballerinas Giulia and Serena, both of whom have been my idols since I was little, performing a piece choreographed by the renowned Italian ballet director, Lorenzo. My excitement levels were off the scale, let's just say, and this was way before the prosecco even arrived at the theatre.
The performance was an absolute triumph, and even a seasoned ballet aficionado like myself was bowled over. The music was a powerful blend of Italian passion and classic grace, the choreography, truly beautiful – swirling figures, dramatic jumps, it was ballet at its best. But what really got me was the sheer joy and energy on the dancers' faces. There's nothing more thrilling than seeing that fire for the art burning in their eyes. It reminds me why I love ballet so much - because it's more than just dancing, it's an expression of emotions, dreams, and pure, untamed beauty.
Shopping with a Tutu Twist:
Now, my lovely readers, no trip to Rome is complete without some serious shopping, and let me tell you, Rome is a retail heaven for the sartorially inclined, whether it be haute couture or a tiny, beaded charm bracelet. I hit the shops with my new pink point shoes already peeking out from under my travel tutu, feeling utterly glamorous. It wasn't long before my little bag was filled with treasures: silk scarves, a beautifully crafted terracotta bracelet adorned with a tiny miniature of the Trevi fountain (and don't even get me started on how much I loved finding that!). And of course, a little bit of shopping simply can't happen without finding some new pink pieces to add to my wardrobe, can it? So, I treated myself to a silk shirt, a fabulous floral-printed skirt (which, by the way, pairs absolutely beautifully with my new pink tutu!) and a couple of little pink hats for when I feel like channelling a touch of "la dolce vita".
Discovering Rome:
After a day packed with art, fashion and ballet, I took a stroll through the city's bustling streets. Rome is alive with history, with every corner whispering tales of emperors, gladiators, and art that has survived through the centuries. I wandered past cobblestone lanes lined with charming cafes, where the scent of freshly brewed espresso mingled with the laughter of locals. I climbed the steps to the Pantheon, marvelling at the architectural brilliance of its dome and the breathtaking views of the cityscape, and spent an hour lost in the world of Michelangelo’s art in the stunning Capilla Sistina.
A little bit of Ballet-Street Magic:
Now, I couldn't let a day in Rome pass without experiencing a little bit of its incredible ballet scene. It just wouldn't be fair to my inner ballerina! So, I headed to a nearby plaza and watched in awe as local dancers practiced their routines with such precision and artistry. And guess what? They didn't even mind when I twirled and danced along in my tutu. It felt incredibly liberating! Who needs a stage when you can feel the joy of movement under the open sky?
What’s in store for tomorrow?
As the sun dips down, casting a golden hue on the rooftops of Rome, I find myself eagerly looking forward to tomorrow. More beautiful ballet, more charming discoveries in this incredible city, and perhaps, a little more twirling in my trusty tutu under the Italian stars! I'm so grateful for every moment in this enchanting city, and I know that Rome, just like the ballet, is all about leaving a little bit of magic wherever you go.
Don't forget to follow my journey, dear readers, and to share your love for tutus and the world of ballet with me! And as always, remember - it's never too late to embrace your inner ballerina!
Ciao for now, and Happy Tutu-ing! 🩰 💖
