Ciao from Rome!
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome post! This week, I'm channeling my inner Audrey Hepburn with a gorgeous pink tutu, perfectly paired with my new, vibrant cherry-red Roman sandals. And let me tell you, Rome has already stolen my heart! 💕
This week, I've been exploring the wonders of the Eternal City with a twinkle in my eye and a skip in my step. My trip was funded by an amazing performance of Swan Lake in my hometown of Derby last weekend – what a privilege it is to share my passion for ballet and use it to fund my travel adventures.
After a relaxing train journey from Derby to Rome (there's nothing like settling into a plush compartment with a book and a cuppa, is there?), I checked into my delightful hotel in the Trastevere neighborhood. I just love this area with its cobblestone streets, vibrant cafes and the most amazing flower stalls, brimming with blooming hydrangeas and sunflowers. Every corner I turn seems like a picture-perfect postcard!
Fashion in the Eternal City:
I’m all about finding the perfect outfit for every city I visit. For Rome, I’ve been living in a chic mix of classic Italian silhouettes with a sprinkle of playful Pink Tutu flair!
This morning, I started with a simple ivory silk dress, teamed with a pastel pink cashmere cardigan. It was perfect for exploring the Roman Forum, especially paired with my dainty, pearl-encrusted sandals and my trusty, pale-pink woven tote. Later in the day, I wanted something with a bit more pep, so I switched to my signature tutu.
It was time to shop, so I hit the fabulous Via Condotti, with its stunning array of high-end boutiques and chic designer stores. I've got my eyes set on the most beautiful, ruby red Valentino pumps that would go perfectly with my upcoming performances.
After a whirlwind day, I indulged in a truly decadent dinner with a delicious Italian gelato, naturally.
Dancing in the Pantheon:
Thursday was another day brimming with exciting adventures! I discovered the amazing, ancient Pantheon.
To be honest, I couldn't help but picture myself dancing in that incredible dome! The vast space and the way the light spills through that circular opening was truly mesmerising! Imagine, the perfect spot for a modern, dramatic interpretation of Swan Lake. A ballerina, with her elegant swan wings fluttering against the warm Italian sunlight… Oh, it's a scene that has got my imagination soaring.
Gladiator Inspiration
Today was all about stepping back in time. My wanderlust took me to the awe-inspiring Colosseum. This was a truly inspiring spot. I couldn’t help but picture the drama and spectacle of the gladiators!
Now, if only ballet could have such intense drama! Just imagine, a fierce battle choreographed on the very stage where real gladiators fought their duels! It would make for a powerful, unforgettable performance. I think Rome has stirred a new dance project in me!
A touch of Theatre Magic:
In the evening, I had the good fortune to attend an opera at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. The Italian opera tradition is second to none and to experience it within these historic walls, well, it was breathtaking.
As I sipped my glass of champagne, and watched the spectacle of opera unfold, I was transported by the powerful emotions that flowed through the songs. The singers were absolutely spellbinding and the set design was nothing short of magnificent! It really made me feel a renewed connection to the artistic side of my life. It’s an art form that has always deeply moved me, inspiring my ballet work.
I truly love to explore and appreciate the creative energy of other cultures. This experience made me feel so grateful for the artistic journey I am on and for the incredible beauty that surrounds me.
The pink tutu movement: Rome edition!
One of my missions with the Pink Tutu blog is to spread the love of tutus. And I was thrilled to see that the city is really embracing this trend! I spotted a sweet little shop that has an entire window display of pink tutus in all shapes and sizes!
Even more heartwarming, I found a local ballet class offering a class called 'Tutu Thursdays', which encouraged participants to wear tutus to their sessions. My heart simply swelled with pride. It’s wonderful to see that the tutu spirit is truly reaching all corners of the world!
As the sun dipped below the horizon, cast a pink hue over Rome, I reflected on another truly amazing day filled with new experiences, fashion delights and inspiring art.
My days in Rome are full of captivating discoveries. And it's made me really think about the way that we embrace tradition and culture with a sense of playfulness and individuality. The city of Rome has enriched my soul and sparked my imagination with its history and captivating energy.
