Ciao bella! It's Emma from Derbyshire, England, your resident Pink Tutu enthusiast and all-round lover of life, here in the eternal city of Rome! I'm taking you with me this week as I twirl my way through this stunning metropolis. Buckle up, darlings, as we're embarking on a whirlwind tour of pink tutus, Roman history, and delicious pasta (did someone say tiramisu? I did!)

This week, as I am writing this, is the first day of Autumn. So the leaves will be changing, there'll be a nip in the air, and I can definitely feel that chill as I sit here writing with my coffee in hand and a new pink cashmere wrap around my shoulders! What’s amazing is Rome has this whole vibrant summery feel to it all year round. That Mediterranean lifestyle really shines, whatever the weather.

Rome’s streets are overflowing with character and history. I've been mesmerised by the Colosseum, marvelling at its size and power. There's something magical about seeing such an incredible feat of engineering that’s stood the test of time. Today I popped in the Basilica di San Clemente which has three churches in one. I’ve got my Roman tour guide, Lorenzo, with me, so I get a fascinating view of what has happened on this site since the second century. He explained it all to me - like how this incredible complex started as a private house during Roman times and became the property of a wealthy senator! It really is incredible to be standing in such historic places!

As much as I love history, a girl’s gotta eat! Yesterday, we wandered around the Trastevere neighbourhood. A magical area packed with quaint piazzas and buzzing with atmosphere. The whole of Trastevere is steeped in history and ancient traditions, and, while the Colosseum may steal the show as a spectacle of Ancient Rome, the area’s cobbled streets and houses and that famous Tiber river - I felt the true soul of Roman culture! Of course, it also offered the best food I’ve had on this trip! Spaghetti Carbonara to die for, plus my own little pink-tutu-inspired twist, of course, was my delightful Strawberry Tiramisu. Who would have thought these flavours could be such a match! It was the perfect end to my afternoon walk.

And speaking of food...I found the most fabulous little vintage clothing shop. Its owner had such great style. They sell all kinds of stylish, whimsical designs, and she agreed that tutus are essential fashion statements (can I get an amen? 💃 ). I found the cutest little vintage tutu and have worn it every day in Rome - It’s a coral shade with some beautiful white lace. Naturally, I was looking for my dream pink tutu (every pink tutu lover's goal, am I right?) But the coral has grown on me… Maybe this city's colourful vibes are rubbing off on me! (Who knew? 😉)

Tomorrow, we're going to the Vatican Museum to check out Michelangelo's “Pieta” in St. Peter's Basilica. I can’t wait. Then, to add to the mix, in the evening we'll see the world-famous Ballet show of ‘La Bohème' - at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. I’m a real fan of Italian Opera - they do have the best voices, they do! And for that occasion, of course, I have picked a pink sequined tutu (with some added velvet detailing, and, well, just because a girl has to have a little bit of sparkle, right?!)

I'll be sure to tell you all about the show on Sunday’s post.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates from this amazing Italian city. It's like an adventure that unfolds before your very eyes every day. It's time for me to pack my pink ballet shoes for my day at the museum! I have to be quick because they're running a little behind schedule here in the museums as I was told it can be super busy today, because of this being a ‘Bank Holiday’ in Rome. I’m planning a stop off at one of the cute little boutiques in Trastevere - if time permits! ( I can’t resist the thrill of the chase when I'm searching for a fabulous vintage dress!)

Ciao bella, Emma 💕
