Buongiorno, darlings! Emma here, back from a whirlwind adventure in the Eternal City! Rome, oh Rome! It’s just as spectacular as I imagined, but with even more layers of history, delicious food, and a touch of pure magic sprinkled on top. It truly lived up to my "pinkest" dreams. This week's post, from the heart of the city of seven hills, is dedicated to all the ballerina souls who love travel, shopping, and of course, all things pink!
So let's kick off this journey, shall we? I always find train journeys particularly exciting. There's something romantic and nostalgic about gazing out the window, especially when you're whizzing through picturesque Italian countryside. As usual, I embraced my inner fashionista with a new arrival, my pink polka dot tutu – the perfect pop of colour against the Italian sun!
As the train glided into Termini station, my heart skipped a beat. Rome had a palpable energy, a pulsating heartbeat that could be felt in every cobbled street and hidden alleyway. The first order of business? To locate the most delectable gelato in Rome! Luckily, a quick trip to a bustling little cafe just down the street from my hotel solved that conundrum. Strawberries and cream, just how I like it, with a hint of pink on the rim of the cone! It was the perfect sugar rush for an afternoon spent wandering around the Roman Forum.
Where history comes alive:
My favourite spot was the Colosseum, the grandeur and scale were absolutely breathtaking. I imagined gladiators clashing in the arena, the crowd cheering, a captivating picture in my mind! But amidst the grandeur, I couldn’t help but think about the many untold stories the stones whispered. You just feel a real sense of history there – you could feel the ancient energy vibrating. I felt truly inspired, and the pink tutu definitely felt at home amongst the historical ruins!
I’m not going to lie, my ballet feet were sore from walking those Roman roads! Luckily, a dip into a vibrant local market delivered a welcome dose of sensory overload. I found an absolute gem - a stall bursting with silk scarves and beautiful hand-crafted jewellery! My eyes practically popped out of their sockets – it was all so dazzling! I even spotted some rose-gold earrings shaped like tiny ballerinas, which I just had to have!
Roman Fashion Flair:
Speaking of fashion, the streets of Rome are truly an exhibition in themselves! Every street corner boasts a chic cafe or designer store, where I found the most exquisite linen fabrics, a gorgeous hand-painted straw hat (perfect for hiding those summer days), and an oh-so-fabulous fuchsia silk blouse, oh my! Now, no trip to Italy is complete without an opera performance! Luckily, on this particular Wednesday, a masterpiece awaited! This week’s recommendation? La Bohème at the Teatro dell'Opera! It was pure magic. Seeing the costumes come to life onstage in all their finery, especially the ballerinas in their graceful tulle, well, it left me absolutely enchanted.
And let’s not forget the most incredible aspect of Italian life – food. Roman cuisine is a sensory delight. I even ventured into the Trastevere neighborhood, known for its lively streets, authentic eateries and an abundance of charm. The best pizza of my life? I think so! This is truly a foodie heaven – all those freshly-made pasta dishes, delicious pastries and divine Italian coffee are just waiting to be devoured. I may or may not have treated myself to a few extra portions of tiramisu!
A sprinkle of "pink magic":
My trip wouldn't have been complete without a sprinkle of “pink magic”. The Pantheon, with its breathtaking dome and incredible light effects, reminded me that Rome was a city where anything seemed possible. It had the power to make dreams come true. Maybe that was the pink magic at play, or maybe it was just the delicious aroma of pasta simmering in a nearby restaurant!
Rome is the ultimate melting pot of beauty, history, and delicious food, with a dose of fashion sprinkled in! If you haven’t experienced the magic of Rome for yourself, do put it on your “to-do” list. My love for this city knows no bounds – and, of course, that pink tutu has already picked out its next Roman adventure!
