Buongiorno, darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-clad traveller, back from a whirlwind trip to the Eternal City! I’m writing this from a charming little cafe in Trastevere, sipping on a delicious cappuccino (they even served it with a mini chocolate heart - how sweet!) while the sunshine bathes the cobblestone streets in a golden glow. As I sit here, the melody of a street performer's violin weaves through the air, creating the most magical atmosphere. It really does feel like I’ve stepped into a movie scene, complete with a splash of that oh-so-Italian charm.
This week's #PinkTutuRome adventure has been pure enchantment! It’s always such a joy to visit a city steeped in history, where every corner tells a story and every glance reveals something beautiful.
And what a perfect day it was! Today was a perfect example of the magic of exploring Rome on a Wednesday, you get to see all the things but without all the tour bus crowds, but with still so much buzz. There was something so special about getting lost in the Roman Forum while it was still relatively quiet, admiring the ancient ruins as the morning light cast dramatic shadows on the walls. Every corner revealed a piece of history - from the towering Colosseum to the serene Palatine Hill, I couldn't help but feel like I was walking through the pages of a history book.
After a spot of history and an incredibly delicious lunch - I even found a little gem of a bakery near the Forum that sold these fluffy, cream-filled pastries that I couldn't resist! - I went off on a fashion adventure through the heart of Rome.
There’s a definite energy here that’s impossible to ignore, especially for someone as fascinated with fashion as I am. Each boutique seems to overflow with unique designs, bold colours and luxurious fabrics - all of which I could have easily lost myself in! But alas, my suitcase wasn’t endless (I wish!) and I had to make do with some gorgeous silk scarves and a stunning emerald green velvet bag.
As a dancer, it was also essential I paid a visit to a proper, classic Italian dance shop – I had to be sure it lived up to its reputation! Well, darling, let me tell you, I found myself utterly enthralled. From exquisitely crafted leotards to beautiful ballet shoes (with the perfect toe-tapering shape), I swear the shop was a veritable ballet paradise! The colours, the fabrics, the attention to detail – it was a feast for the eyes and a total dancer’s dream. And while I couldn’t help but indulge in a few gorgeous pink satin ribbons for my hair, I really need a bigger suitcase!
The evening culminated with a breathtaking performance by the Rome Opera Ballet. It was, dare I say it, heavenly! The entire experience felt like stepping into a magical, dreamlike world, with breathtaking sets and an electrifying score. The ballerina's were absolutely stunning, with their flowing movements, graceful turns, and delicate artistry, they truly brought the story to life! Of course, every outfit had its own unique charm - from sparkling tutus to sleek black costumes – and you bet I snapped loads of pictures to inspire my own designs! It was absolutely a magical way to round off my #PinkTutuRome journey!
Rome truly stole my heart – the rich history, the buzzing atmosphere, the beautiful architecture, the fashion!
Oh, and if you’re ever in the neighbourhood, darling, make sure to head over to the Piazza Navona! This vibrant piazza bustles with life – there's street art, live music, artists, street food – you really have to see it to believe it. The beautiful Bernini fountain in the center makes for a perfect backdrop for a photo op (even with my tutus, I have to say it was quite a sight!), but don't forget to pick out the beautiful little treasures in the souvenir stalls – you won’t regret it!
For me, Rome has been all about celebrating the artistry of movement, from ballet performances to street performers to, of course, my own Pink Tutu flair! Every day in this beautiful city feels like a little performance - and you can bet that even in a city where everyone’s dressed to impress, my pink tutus continue to make a splash! It's truly incredible the joy and smiles they bring – especially to little ones – as we wander the streets together. My little tutu is fast becoming an international symbol of joy and expression, it really is quite lovely!
Don't forget, my dears, you can see photos of all the latest adventures on my Instagram at @EmmaPinkTutu and my weekly #PinkTutuRome posts are published on www.pink-tutu.com You can follow my dance journeys and my fashion finds.
It's truly magical the places we can get to with a little bit of creativity and a dash of pink!
So keep twirling, my dears, and keep exploring the world!
See you all next Wednesday!
Until then, may all your days be filled with joy, sparkles, and of course, a touch of pink.
A bientot!
Emma
