Pink Tutu Rome: #1462 – A Ballet-Lover’s Paradise! 🩰🇮🇹

Wednesday 2023-06-14

Ciao bella!

This week's adventure finds me in the Eternal City, Rome, where the air is thick with history, and the streets are filled with laughter and the aroma of fresh pastries! This trip, of course, is all about dance and fashion – Rome just happens to have a thriving ballet scene, not to mention some of the most amazing boutiques you can imagine.

It all began with a flurry of excitement as I boarded the train in Derbyshire. Let's face it, there's nothing quite like the romance of travelling by rail. The clickety-clack of the wheels, the anticipation building with every station we pass, and the sheer joy of watching the scenery whizz by. All in a gorgeous, pale pink tulle tutu, of course! You'd be surprised how many compliments you get on a train in full pink tutu garb, even on the slightly more reserved, commuter train. And for those of you wondering, I packed a practical, denim jacket with some hidden pockets, just in case I needed to stash my little pink tutu bag for the day's adventures.

Speaking of adventures, I’ve already conquered Rome's captivating Colosseum! Stepping into that arena felt like stepping into a time machine. Imagine all the gladiatorial battles and fierce fights that have taken place within those walls, it just makes you gasp! My little pink tutu was an unexpected highlight in such a grand and ancient setting. I think I brought a splash of fun and femininity to the historical backdrop – the gladiators would have been impressed!

Of course, Rome isn't all ancient history, there's a vibrant present to enjoy too. I've already had my fill of delicious Italian pasta and delectable gelatos! (My favourite was the raspberry flavour, the kind with juicy, ripe fruit chunks and the most delicious crunchy waffle cone). There's so much to see here; the charming cobblestone streets, the impressive Vatican, and a hundred and one tiny independent boutiques just bursting with beautiful Italian leather goods, clothes and accessories – you name it!

Dancing through Rome!

Speaking of beauty, tonight, I’m off to see a ballet performance at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. This place is truly magnificent. The grand old theatre itself has so much history, and the programmes are absolutely captivating! And you know me, it’s impossible to miss the opportunity to wear a brand new, custom-made, sparkling pink tutu to the show. It features intricate embroidery, an incredible iridescent finish and layers of dreamy, swirly tulle - this little beauty is the star of the show!

I have my eye on an utterly divine silk pink number with delicate rose embroidery - the colour of delicate cherry blossoms. I plan on heading to the designer boutiques in the historic centre on the weekend, to see if I can nab myself a treat.

But before that, tomorrow morning I’m joining a ballet class! I couldn’t possibly come to Rome and not visit a ballet school, It's a chance to brush up on my technique (a girl's gotta keep her pirouettes up!) and, even better, there's an excellent class at a small studio that has live piano accompaniment - heavenly! I’ll be bringing my ballet bag filled with my most luxurious ballet kit; it has everything I need to feel fabulous and get ready for my pirouette, plié and port de bras practice session. I can just picture myself, pink tutu shimmering in the morning sun, twirling happily in this vibrant city, spreading a little pink ballet magic everywhere I go. It is an absolute joy to share my love of ballet with everyone! You can always tell a fellow ballerina when you see one, you just get this instant connection - like two butterflies fluttering in perfect synchronisation.

What to wear in Rome: Pink perfection

This city is filled with beautiful clothes, so I had to go for an Italian-inspired pink look to truly absorb the ambience!

I started my Italian journey in a chic and classic, knee-length white linen dress - a timeless choice perfect for Rome's warmth. To make it even more unique, I added a touch of Parisian elegance with a crisp, powder pink fedora hat, delicately adorned with a large, silken rose, it’s absolutely breathtaking! For a pop of vibrant colour, I opted for an amazing bright pink leather belt - such a great way to tie it all together and create a perfect waistline. To finish the outfit, my absolute favourite bright, pink sandals (just a hint of gold in the design, for that extra touch of sparkle) paired beautifully with the whole look. This is my favourite ensemble so far on this trip - perfect for exploring ancient ruins, strolling around charming squares and finding the cutest cafés.

Of course, my pink tutu was the perfect touch to enhance any outfit! It was perfect to carry as a small bag over the shoulder (I'm all about those useful multi-function garments!), to throw on for a dash of pink in an otherwise subdued outfit, or simply to wear with my best smile, twirling my way through this glorious city. After all, nothing says "pink power" like a gorgeous pink tutu.

This city is making my heart sing. From its architectural splendour to the art, food and people, there’s magic everywhere you look.

Stay tuned! Next week, we’re delving deeper into Rome’s vibrant cultural scene! From the best shops to visit (especially the designer boutiques in the city centre), the coolest local events, and perhaps, even a cheeky ice cream selfie (with a special little pink tutu detail, of course)!
