Ciao, darlings!
It’s Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu adventure! Today, I'm whisking you all off to the Eternal City - Rome! As I’m typing this, I can actually see the majestic Colosseum in the distance - how incredibly dreamy is that?
This week’s escapade is a bit different – I'm trading in my pointe shoes for some chic gladiator sandals. Now, I know some of you might think a tutu doesn't quite fit with Roman history, but trust me, my lovelies, you'd be surprised! A pink tutu can brighten up any occasion, from the Colosseum to the Trevi Fountain. Let's just say, I’ve found a few sneaky ways to incorporate the tulle in my sightseeing – it's all about making the most of every moment, right?
Getting there… on a Train!
First things first: how did I arrive in this stunning city? The way to travel, naturally – by train! I always say, a journey is part of the adventure, and it wouldn't be a Pink Tutu journey without a comfy seat and a bit of romantic scenery. The Italian train lines are incredibly picturesque. There’s nothing like winding through the countryside, soaking in the views and daydreaming about the city waiting for me at the end.
Rome… in Pink!
Rome, my dear readers, is a city that demands a little extra pizazz! This ancient city is oozing with history and culture - and let's be honest, who can resist a touch of pink to liven things up? I'm thinking bold fuchsia for a stroll past the Pantheon, soft baby pink while exploring the Forum, or a hot pink tutu when I get a little "touristy" at the Trevi Fountain – who knows, maybe I'll even try throwing in a few coins.
Fashion and Flamenco!
Speaking of fun, yesterday, I stumbled upon this amazing boutique near the Spanish Steps that had the most fabulous flamenco dresses! Imagine, my loves – a bright red dress, complete with layers of ruffled skirts. It's the ultimate flamenco inspiration for me, and let’s just say, a new ballet number featuring red and pink is bubbling up already! I couldn't resist buying one myself – it was too gorgeous to miss.
Food for the Soul… and the Body
Food, glorious food! Rome, oh Rome, you have completely won me over with your delectable dishes. Yesterday, I indulged in the most delicious spaghetti alla carbonara, the sauce was rich and creamy and perfectly complemented by the salty guanciale. This evening, I'm treating myself to a romantic dinner in a quaint, cobbled courtyard – just imagine, candlelight, music, and all the incredible Italian flavours! The food here is so fresh and flavorful, even my veggie side can't resist the charm!
The Ballet Show
One of my favourite things about exploring new cities is immersing myself in the local arts scene. Later tonight, I'm heading to a fabulous ballet show featuring an entirely female cast – I've been eagerly anticipating it all week! The dancers are incredible, with each pirouette telling a new story. This is what I truly live for: the power and elegance of ballet, mixed with the vibrant spirit of the city. It's an enchanting experience.
From Derbyshire to Rome… in Pink
It's times like this, in this breathtaking city, that I remember how important it is to dream big and follow your passions, no matter how many miles you have to travel.
Even as a small girl in Derbyshire, England, with a head full of ballerina dreams, I always dreamt of this moment - dancing in a Roman ballet, a pink tutu fluttering against the vibrant cityscape. My travels are a celebration of that childhood passion – the joy of the art, the exploration of cultures, and, of course, the constant sparkle of a perfectly pink tutu!
