Pink Tutu Rome: #1499 - A Ballerina's Roman Holiday! 🩰🇮🇹
Ciao bella! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-wearing, travel-loving ballerina, back with another thrilling instalment of my Roman adventure! This week, the cobbled streets of Rome are buzzing with my tutus, as I delve deeper into this city of history, art, and of course, delectable gelato.
This week in Rome has been a whirlwind of pink and sparkle. My Instagram followers have been utterly smitten with my recent ballet street performance outside the Trevi Fountain – can you imagine, twirling under the cascading water with the Eternal City as my backdrop? ⛲️💃
I've always been a bit of a romantic, and the history of Rome truly captivates me. The Colosseum, a giant relic of a bygone era, simply took my breath away. Standing within those ancient walls, you can almost feel the energy of the gladiatorial contests and the roar of the crowds. 🏛️
On my trip to the Vatican, I was spellbound by Michelangelo's incredible ceiling in the Sistine Chapel. The vibrant colours and the sheer scale of the masterpiece were utterly awe-inspiring. After the chapel, I headed over to St Peter’s Square. Imagine me, twirling beneath the immense dome, my pink tutu shimmering against the white marble of the square!
Of course, no trip to Rome is complete without a little retail therapy. I must confess, I have a penchant for designer shoes, and the shops on Via Condotti haven't disappointed. I have a rather special pair of bright pink platform sandals – the perfect match for my current obsession with vintage lace tutus – coming home with me! 👠
Speaking of tutus, I discovered a hidden gem, a quaint little boutique, tucked away in a charming backstreet, that sells exquisite vintage dancewear. You wouldn’t believe the vintage tulle tutus I unearthed there! 💫 I managed to secure some absolute treasures - a stunning 1950s pale pink tulle tutu and a gorgeous lavender 1940s tutu - just begging for their moment to shine on the dance floor.
But the best part of this journey has been the food. Roman pasta, anyone? My favourite, Carbonara, has to be the most delicious thing on earth! Don't forget the tiramisu! And let’s not forget the delightful aroma of coffee that permeates the city, wafting through every narrow cobblestone alley. I'm absolutely obsessed! 🍝☕️
Tomorrow morning, I'm heading to the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. Oh, how I love the feeling of excitement and anticipation as I make my way to a ballet performance! And to top it all off, this evening, I'm going to the Quirinale Palace, the official residence of the President of Italy, for a special private event with other ballet enthusiasts! Just me, a breathtaking palace, a delightful group of people and a sprinkle of pink magic. 👑🩰
As always, the biggest thrill is sharing this incredible journey with you. My goal remains the same - to get the whole world wearing pink tutus and embrace the magic that only this wonderful garment can bring. And as the sun sets on another delightful day in Rome, I know I am exactly where I’m meant to be.
Until next Wednesday, keep spreading the pink and the joy!
Lots of love,
Emma

Today’s Happenings in Rome (2024-02-28):
This week is jam-packed with exciting cultural events! There are a plethora of things happening in Rome right now that I just had to share!
Culture & Performance:
Carnaval Romano: You may not know it, but Rome has an excellent, almost forgotten Carnival. Even in February, you can still catch remnants of its parades, costume balls, and delightful street performances. It's not just for children!
Exhibition: Caravaggio at the Galleria Borghese: A dazzling collection of masterpieces from the enigmatic Baroque painter, this exhibition at the prestigious Galleria Borghese is not to be missed! The museum is absolutely gorgeous too, making a beautiful backdrop for Caravaggio’s iconic paintings.
Concert at Auditorium Parco della Musica: A full lineup of classical music concerts, operas, and dance performances is held daily. The Parco della Musica is also a stunning modern structure worth a visit, making this the perfect spot for an evening of high art.
Opera & Ballet Performances at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma: Of course, you all know this is a big one for me! Tonight, there is a fantastic rendition of “La Traviata”. And tomorrow, I’m heading to see "Romeo and Juliet", featuring my absolute favorite, Misty Copeland, one of the most incredible dancers of our time! You should all go watch!
Fashion:
- Pitti Immagine Uomo: This international men's fashion event showcases the very latest in style. Even though the event is mainly focused on menswear, you can find some amazing accessory and handbag lines at the various boutiques and fashion shows. Rome is always ahead of the game when it comes to chic and innovative style!
Food:
- The International Cheese Fair in Rome: This is an absolute treat for all those who love a bit of cheesy goodness! Indulge in rare, high-quality, award-winning cheeses from across Italy and beyond. There's sure to be a delectable cheese that is perfect for your palate! 🧀
Events & Celebrations:
- San Francesco di Paola, Feast Day: For you devout Catholics out there, celebrate the feast of this patron saint of Naples, whose iconic Basilica on Piazza dei Martiri is worth a visit for its dazzling golden columns and dramatic marble floors. The feast day will likely include a processional and many festive celebrations throughout the city!
Top Tips for your Roman Adventure:
Transport: Rome is a very walkable city, but I’ve found using Rome’s excellent public transportation system saves lots of time, and, it allows me to cover more ground during a single day! Get a daily ticket and just jump on and off, you will thank me for it later!
Weather: Keep in mind, it gets cold at night in February in Rome! Even though you’ll need a jumper in the evening, the sun usually comes out to greet us during the day. Don’t forget to bring some waterproof footwear - those cobblestone streets can get slippery if the weather turns! ☔️
Bargaining: While I generally don’t enjoy negotiating, you’re welcome to haggle at some of the smaller shops in Rome. If you're feeling adventurous, just ask and you may be pleasantly surprised with the outcome!
I hope these suggestions add a bit more spice to your Roman journey!
