Ciao from the Eternal City, my darling tutu-loving readers! It’s Emma here, your pink-tutu-wearing travel companion, reporting live from Rome! Today is Wednesday, which means a new post from yours truly on the glorious www.pink-tutu.com! This week, we’re in the heart of Italy, taking in all the Roman delights – think ancient history, delicious food, and, of course, lots and lots of tutus!
My latest ballet performance, a dreamy production of Swan Lake in lovely, sun-drenched Derbyshire, landed me a comfortable travel allowance, which led me, of course, straight to the train station! Now, there’s nothing quite like the excitement of train travel – especially when you’re rocking your favourite pink tutu (I went for the feather-trimmed, flowy number – very Audrey Hepburn!). I've found that a pink tutu, coupled with my signature charm, has a magical way of sparking conversation on public transport. It seems the joy of a twirl can spread across any continent!
Rome, for me, feels like a haven for the fashionable. My suitcase (packed to the brim with my favourite ballet shoes and an array of fabulous pink tutus!) burst forth in the chic shops on Via Condotti – imagine a shopping paradise of tulle, silk and all things lovely! This, my friends, is a ballet girl's dream come true. And let me tell you, the Romans are embracing the pink-tutu-revolution – I spotted no less than three girls twirling down the cobbled streets yesterday!
Yesterday, I embraced the majestic beauty of the Colosseum. Can you believe its ancient stone tells stories spanning thousands of years? Imagine all the lives and dramas played out beneath that sun-baked sky. As I pirouetted amongst the ancient columns, it felt like I was in a historical ballet performance myself, a perfect blend of history and dance!
My trip wouldn't be complete without experiencing the beauty of Roman architecture and art! The Vatican City was utterly captivating, a world of breathtaking frescoes, magnificent domes, and a symphony of colours. And let’s not forget the awe-inspiring grandeur of St. Peter’s Basilica! You’ll be forgiven if you forget your place for a moment and feel yourself lifted to a heavenly dimension!
To embrace the local flavour, I spent the evening strolling through the vibrant Campo de' Fiori – a bustling heart of Rome, buzzing with laughter, delicious smells, and of course, some truly delightful fashion! My pink tutu attracted a lot of attention as I sampled delectable local delicacies from the many charming stalls. There's nothing like indulging in authentic Roman fare, a taste of the history, culture and vibrancy that pervades every corner of the city.
But Rome isn’t just about museums and ancient ruins – it’s also about the breathtaking beauty of a quiet corner piazza bathed in the golden light of a setting sun, about sipping espresso on a cobbled side street and watching the world go by, or savouring a gelato with your eyes closed and feeling the soft sweetness melt on your tongue.
Rome is also about music, dance and theatre! There’s nothing like the magical glow of a traditional Italian Opera. Imagine, if you will, the grand, ornate opera house, the dramatic costumes, the soaring voices. Every note was pure, intoxicating bliss. As the final curtain fell, a wave of pure joy surged through me! The performance brought tears to my eyes - such beauty, passion, and emotion!
And my dearest friends, how about a little ballet class while you're in the heart of Rome? Let’s not forget my biggest passion: ballet. I have been lucky enough to find a local ballet studio that's welcoming and enchanting! You could say I’ve discovered a whole new meaning to "stepping out" in Rome – each class is an exploration of movement, grace and self-expression. My little ballet journey has truly been a treat, from learning new steps, practicing turns and stretching my limbs. As always, the warm and welcoming embrace of the ballet world has become my favourite thing in Rome!
The past few days in Rome have been truly magical! Every street, every corner is a chance for a new adventure. I'm truly living my best life - ballet dancing, exploring stunning cities, and inspiring everyone around me to embrace their own unique style, even if it involves a splash of pink and a graceful twirl. It’s all about embracing your individuality, letting loose, and sharing your joy with the world.
So, what can I say? Rome has captured my heart and my imagination. And with its abundance of culture, vibrant streets and friendly locals, it’s truly a destination to add to your travel list! Remember, everyone looks fabulous in a pink tutu. So why not embrace the world in a vibrant pink and bring joy to every step you take?
