Pink Tutu Rome: Week 1639 - A Ballet-Fueled Journey Through The Eternal City!

Hello my darlings! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu adventure, and this week we're in Rome! Yes, that's right, I've traded in my Derbyshire countryside for the ancient streets and piazzas of the Eternal City. As I sit here with a cappuccino, my pink tutu (of course) perfectly complimenting the pink hued marble table in this quaint cafe, I can already tell that Rome is going to be utterly enchanting!

I arrived last night by train – those are always a joy, as you can soak up the scenery (especially as I have an absolutely wonderful window seat). After arriving in Roma Termini station, it was a short cab ride to my hotel in the heart of the Trastevere district, where the cobbled streets and pretty pastel houses feel like stepping back in time.

Now, as a dedicated Pink Tutu traveller, my wardrobe has always been about balancing that delicate combination of girly and practical, but Rome… oh darling, Rome calls for a complete embrace of fabulousness!* I’m talking dramatic gowns for a night at the opera, playful floral frocks for strolling through the piazzas, and of course, plenty of statement tutus that wouldn't be out of place at a Renaissance fair. Just imagine it: a cascade of pink tulle against the ancient stones of the Colosseum. *Chic, no? *

So, the first thing on my Roman agenda today was a visit to Via Condotti. This is the street where fashion royalty lives -think Gucci, Valentino, Prada – you name it, it’s all there. I know some may find the designer shops a bit intimidating, but my darling, fashion is not about intimidating, it’s about expressing yourself!

And what better way to do that than in a pink tutu, with a little vintage Dior on my arm, as I browse the racks at the Chanel Boutique? Dare I say, I was a vision in pink! I resisted the urge to indulge in a new pair of designer shoes (though that Louboutin did catch my eye!) but I did, however, find a divine pair of silk gloves. It wouldn’t be a Pink Tutu adventure without a little retail therapy, would it?

After my glamorous morning shopping expedition, I indulged in one of my favorite Rome traditions: an afternoon stroll through Borghese Gardens. These beautifully manicured gardens offer the most charming hideaway from the city bustle. The statues, the fountains, and the sun-dappled trees offer endless photo opportunities for my Instagram. Don’t worry, I’ll share all the snaps, of course!

I’m actually heading back to the Borghese Gallery tomorrow for their renowned art collection. And this evening? It's time for a Roman treat: a ballet performance! They have such a rich tradition of ballet here in Rome, and I can’t wait to be enchanted by some classical moves in this beautiful city. I’ve already reserved a table at Ristorante Da Danilo after the performance, one of the city’s most famous "trattorias", famous for its incredible “cacio e pepe”, and just steps away from the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.

Speaking of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, the stage at the Teatro Constanzi is set for a thrilling performance of "Giselle", one of the most iconic ballets. It’s going to be magnificent! This classic romantic tale is known for its powerful portrayal of love, loss, and the mystical element of fairies.

It truly embodies everything I love about ballet: its expressiveness, its elegance, and the sheer magic of watching the dancers soar effortlessly on stage. And, of course, I wouldn't dream of going to a ballet without my tutu, my pink tutu, and this one's a lovely soft tulle that shimmers in the stage lights, with delicate feathers to echo Giselle’s romantic nature.

But the day isn’t over yet. After a delicious dinner, I'm going to treat myself to a little gelato (strawberry and rose, naturally!), which I plan on enjoying at the Gianicolo Hill. You get such an amazing view of the city from up there, and the sunsets over Rome are legendary. It will be the perfect end to a beautiful and inspiring day!

That's a wrap for my first day in Rome, my darlings! Keep a lookout on my www.pink-tutu.com blog next Wednesday for more exciting Pink Tutu escapades in this magical city! Remember to share your adventures and send me pics with #PinkTutuRome! I’m always thrilled to see what outfits my readers are rocking.

Until next week,

Emma XO
