Ciao bella! It’s Emma here, back from the Eternal City with a head full of sunshine, a heart full of Italian charm, and of course, a suitcase overflowing with fabulous finds! This week, I took a spin through the magical streets of Rome, embracing its ancient history, delicious food, and vibrant culture. And, naturally, I had to spread the pink tutu love in the process!
This journey started on a classic Italian train. I swear, those little compartments and the clickety-clack on the tracks just fuel my imagination. My pink tulle skirt swirled with the wind as I watched the countryside whizz by – a breathtaking blur of green hills and charming villages. This train ride felt like a scene from a vintage Italian film.
Rome, my love, was just as beautiful! We arrived right in time for a magnificent performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, a grand old dame with beautiful architecture and a timeless atmosphere. The ballet was absolutely enchanting – the dancers were elegant and expressive, swirling with such grace and passion, the music a captivating symphony. You see, I find it so inspiring that people are willing to dedicate their lives to this art form – so elegant, precise, yet with an underlying strength and resilience. Ballet really makes you appreciate the human body and its capabilities. My pink tutu, I realised, blended perfectly with the red and gold tones of the theatre, a testament to its classic and universal appeal!
After the show, we dined at a traditional Roman restaurant. The aromas alone were intoxicating – garlic, oregano, tomatoes, fresh basil – you name it, the Italians use it. I savored every bite, from the spaghetti alla carbonara to the classic tiramisu, all while plotting which of Rome’s incredible markets I’d hit up in the morning for a vintage tutu or a fabulously stylish pink dress. Rome has the most delicious and delectable selection of Italian designer wear - I think I may have bought just one too many pairs of gorgeous heels this trip (you can’t judge!).
The following day was dedicated to exploring the history of this city, from the iconic Colosseum to the beautiful Trevi Fountain. It's truly a wonder to be surrounded by centuries of history, yet the vibrant energy of the people and the city truly kept the modern feeling flowing. Even a walk around the Borghese Gallery, amongst masterpieces of sculpture and painting, made me think about art's ability to capture fleeting moments in time. I'm quite sure my Instagram stories had never been so artistically beautiful.
Rome, I tell you, is full of enchanting hidden nooks and magical places that feel straight out of a movie. There’s nothing quite like discovering a tucked away courtyard filled with roses and humming with the gentle rhythm of a fountain. That’s where the idea for this week's tutu style came to me – a romantic blush pink tulle skirt, delicate as a flower petal, paired with a chic white linen top and elegant white sandals, for that effortlessly chic, summery feel. Naturally, it would not be a Rome trip without the famous gelato, the sweetness and taste of a decadent Italian experience, reminding me of that delightful lightness and carefree energy that Rome evokes.
Later that afternoon, a local guide took us on a breathtaking tour of the Roman Forum, and I found myself enthralled by stories of emperors, gladiators, and empires that had risen and fallen long ago. As we stood before the magnificent Pantheon, its awe-inspiring dome touching the sky, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of wonder and connection to those who walked these very streets before us. And, yes, I had to pose with my pink tutu, creating some breathtakingly stunning Instagram stories against the breathtaking backdrop. My followers went wild - the pink really added some life and fun to the history, reminding me that colour can enhance every scene!
For our last night in Rome, we went to a traditional Trastevere restaurant for dinner, which was an absolute delight. We sat out on a cobblestone street with the aroma of pizza and pasta wafting in the air, surrounded by happy, lively conversation. The street performers were truly incredible, full of joy and expressive dancing – there was an elderly gentleman who brought tears to my eyes with a performance on the accordion, which was so emotionally heartfelt. His passion reminded me how important it is to embrace the things you love, whatever age. And that includes wearing a pink tutu - even if you're 80 years old. You can do it! I promise.
This week's Roman adventure was a true delight, reminding me of the beautiful, exciting things to be found all over the world. And of course, I had a blast bringing the pink tutu magic with me to this incredible city. Every step in Rome felt like a fairytale, every interaction a lesson, every tastebud tingling with Italian delights. I came to Rome seeking new experiences and adventures, but I found much more - a renewed sense of wonder and a burning passion to share my love of ballet, tutus, travel and the beauty of life!
And before I forget, I'll be teaching my famous "Pink Tutu Dance" on Friday! Don't forget to book your spot, you can find more information on www.pink-tutu.com It's always such fun sharing this passion with my students!
I’m back in Derbyshire now, recharged, refreshed, and full of ideas for future adventures! If you're dreaming of a trip to Rome, go for it – you won't regret it. Just remember to pack your pink tutu, the Italian spirit awaits!
Until next Wednesday, keep your tutus twirling and your spirits soaring.
