Ciao bella! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another dose of #PinkTutuRome, direct from the cobbled streets of the Eternal City itself! I’ve traded my Derbyshire dales for Roman ruins, and trust me, the fashion game is seriously stepped up a notch here. My latest tulle triumph, a shimmering blush number with delicate sequins, is practically blending in with the gorgeous Baroque architecture, it’s truly divine!
This week I'm all about experiencing the best of what Rome has to offer – from historical marvels and vibrant street life, to some seriously good shopping (with a side of delicious pasta, naturally). It's a heady mix of culture, charm, and, of course, fabulous fashion – just the way I like it!
A Royal Roman Welcome
I landed in Rome feeling like I was starring in a vintage travel film. The taxi ride through the bustling city felt like I'd been transported into a glamorous movie. With cobbled streets, ancient monuments peeking through the urban jungle, and enough gelaterias to make a grown woman squeal with delight, Rome's charm is palpable. And guess what? I found my perfect pink haven! A little boutique just off the Piazza Navona with the most amazing pink shoes. Sparkly ballet flats, fluffy pink ballet pumps, the whole works. It's just what my inner princess needed to complete the look, and they felt amazing paired with my tulle. I bought one of each colour in every style, of course!
A Whirl Through History
On my first day, I hit the ground running. You see, I'm not a museum type. It's too static for a tutu girl! I need energy and movement, and a ballet performance definitely helps with that. Luckily, Rome had some surprises in store, combining history with an impressive amount of swirling, twirling beauty!
The Colosseum! I mean, you just can’t visit Rome without marveling at this legendary arena. And as much as it felt strange, I actually danced through the Colosseum. It felt like stepping back in time, but with a distinct #PinkTutu twist. I think the other tourists enjoyed my impromptu performance!
I wandered down the Roman Forum. Imagine my excitement when I saw the Forum’s incredible ballet-themed fountain – it was perfect for a quick little pose. Just picture me with the Forum as my backdrop, tutu swirling like the water from the fountain. It was so magical, and it was the perfect excuse to capture a few snaps for the 'Gram!
And what's a trip to Rome without visiting the Vatican? My oh my, that iconic dome - it's a magnificent feat of engineering and artistry! The Vatican Museums are an absolute must-see, not just for their stunning artworks but also for the unique combination of faith and fashion! While the halls are packed with priceless treasures, I was mesmerized by the grandeur of St Peter’s Basilica. It's such a powerful symbol, and I couldn't help but feel that little ballerina in me come out as I gazed upon the stunning art and architecture. It was time for another tutu twirl!
Rome’s Enchanting Ballet Scene
Speaking of tutus and twirls, my search for a local ballet performance lead me to the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. I secured a couple of tickets for “La Bayadere”, and I must say, I was not disappointed. The ballet itself was beautiful - those dancers really know how to make a tutu flow. I felt so much inspiration from watching the ballerinas gracefully move across the stage, they gave my tutu a serious workout and made me long for the practice room. And of course, the costume design! A mix of sparkling jewel tones and swishing fabrics, everything just felt right and completely made my night.
Street Style in the City of Angels
You just cannot escape the stunning fashion in Rome. Whether it's the beautiful, classic styles you find at the market, or the trendy, daring outfits you spot on the streets. The men and women I met all dressed so well, I even saw a group of lads sporting pink bowties, so chic! I mean, everyone’s always looked sharp in Italy, but the style in Rome is just incredible. And you know what's truly brilliant about Rome? It's the effortless chic. A simple white t-shirt, black trousers and the perfect leather handbag - and it all comes together effortlessly. And you don't need to spend a fortune on designer labels to make a statement! The fashion in Rome is about individuality and making the most of what you have, and let's be honest, a pink tutu works with practically everything!
Time for a Bite of Paradise
There's more to Rome than art, culture and fashion (though it's tempting to only focus on those!). I wouldn't be a true #PinkTutu traveler if I didn’t try out the local cuisine! And I'm happy to report: Rome’s food scene is absolutely delightful. The pastas are so fresh and flavoursome, I just love trying the local specialities. You simply have to try their spaghetti all’amatriciana and carbonara – it’s pasta heaven! I especially enjoyed the ricotta-filled tortellini. Every dish felt like a gourmet ballet of taste – light and graceful, yet complex and full of flavour!
Ciao, for now
This week's Roman adventures have been an explosion of pink joy! From twirling through historical sites to swooning over a delightful ballet, this city really stole my heart! Of course, I couldn’t have experienced all this without my trusty pink tutu! Stay tuned for next Wednesday’s blog - I've got even more pink, twirling adventures in store for you. Till then, spread some tutu love! Ciao!
Love,
Emma x
*P.S. * If you are in Rome this week, don't miss the "A Celebration of Pink: Ballet on the Tiber" festival on Friday. I will be dancing with other pink-clad ballet lovers. I would love to see you there! You can follow me on my social media at @PinkTutuTravels for more updates and photos from this spectacular event! It's going to be a pink wonderland, and I'm bringing the ballet sparkle!
