Ciao Bella!
Well, here we are in the Eternal City, Rome, and I must tell you, this week has been absolutely magical! Imagine a kaleidoscope of ancient ruins, gelato that could melt your heart, gorgeous people, and vibrant fashion - that's Rome, my darlings.
But, of course, you know me, I couldn't resist slipping my trusty pink tutu into my suitcase. My darling Pink Tutu, she's a true travelling companion. Just look at her, twirling happily in this stunning square, bathed in the warm, Italian sunshine - a vision in pink! We made a splash at Termini station when I arrived on the Eurostar from Paris (they always love a bit of pink sparkle, you know!), and, of course, she’s already turned heads amongst the stylish Roman ladies!
I even gave the Romans a taste of my Derbyshire dancing heritage with a spontaneous little performance (with my trusty Tutu, of course!). You see, this little number has the power to ignite joy, bring out your inner sparkle and, let's face it, who can resist a tutu twirl? Not even the serious, stylish Roman gentleman with the delicious cappuccino! I told him about my little dream to get everyone wearing pink tutus - just think of it, all those fabulously flamboyant outfits with a little splash of pink!
A whirlwind of culture and dancing
This week's schedule has been packed with adventures! Firstly, a ballet show at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma - "La Traviata", gorgeous, absolutely stunning! It was an amazing production and I have to say, the ballerinas there certainly inspired me. They made their tutus look like absolute works of art. I even got to try out one of their tutus in their studio. I mean, who doesn’t want to twirl on pointe in the very space where professionals perform? Let’s just say I might be considering taking ballet classes here when I'm back… a girl's gotta try everything!
Then we had to go shopping. After all, Rome is a shopping paradise. I found a gorgeous pink-toned palazzo skirt which, let me tell you, will be making a debut in my next video! I even found a gorgeous silk scarf - all the way from Florence! My little fashion heart was full!
We also ventured to the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain - truly awe-inspiring places. You know I just had to throw in a coin for good luck at the fountain (I made sure to make a wish for a pink-tutu-clad Rome)!
And, speaking of wishes, I was lucky enough to witness a real Italian opera on the steps of the Spanish Steps, complete with passionate singers and a bustling, clapping audience! These musicians gave their heart and soul to the music, and let's face it, with a backdrop as dramatic as Rome, well, the evening just couldn't be anything but fantastic!
* Food Glorious Food and a Roman Recipe *
Oh, and the food! Oh, my, the food! From delicious pasta, rich Italian cheeses and delectable cakes to perfect cappuccinos with fluffy clouds of froth, Italy truly spoils you. It’s all so unbelievably scrumptious.
You have to try my favourite pasta dish here:
*Pink Pasta with Garlic & Parsley *
*You’ll need: *
- 1 lb pasta (any kind but I love penne!)
- 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
- 5-6 cloves of garlic (finely chopped)
- 1 cup of fresh parsley (roughly chopped)
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
Let’s get cookin’!
Bring a large pot of salted water to the boil and add your pasta.
In a large pan, heat your oil over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook for about 1-2 minutes, until it becomes fragrant but doesn't brown.
Drain your pasta when it’s al dente and toss it immediately with the garlic and olive oil. Add your parsley.
Mix it up thoroughly and season to your taste.
Serve immediately (You know I like to garnish mine with some pink peppercorns!).
