Pink Tutu Rome: Post #1685 - A Week of Roman Delights!

Buongiorno from the Eternal City, darling readers! It's Wednesday, and that means it's time for another dose of Pink Tutu travel shenanigans. This week, I've been absolutely living the Roman dream, embracing all the beauty and romance that this iconic city has to offer. And let me tell you, there's enough gelato, historical wonders, and fashion inspiration to fill a thousand tutus!

As usual, I arrived in style, by train, of course! The journey from Derbyshire felt like stepping back in time as the landscape whirled by, green fields giving way to the ancient rolling hills of Tuscany. And then, bam! Rome! It’s such a dramatic and vibrant city; the air thrums with a captivating energy that's almost impossible to resist.

My first order of business, of course, was a bit of sartorial exploration. Shopping in Rome is like stepping into a fairytale, every shop window a shimmering vision of haute couture and classic elegance. The colour palette is exquisite, full of warm terracottas, sun-kissed yellows, and rich blues – all begging to be paired with my favourite shade, of course: pink! I snagged the most exquisite silk scarf in a delicate blush, the perfect addition to my pink tutu ensemble for an evening at the opera.

Opera Night with a Twist

Speaking of opera, oh my heavens, I spent the most magical evening at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma! It was absolutely breathtaking. The grand marble interiors felt like something out of a dream, the opulent décor echoing centuries of Italian artistic brilliance. And then there was the performance, a dazzling display of soaring vocals and dramatic costumes. I couldn’t help but feel a surge of inspiration for my own ballet work, a wave of creative energy fuelled by the power of the performers and the magical setting.

You might be wondering: "But Emma, didn't you perform to help fund your travels?" And you'd be right, my dears! This trip is all thanks to my amazing ballet performances. This week, I danced for a beautiful charity event at a local theatre, showcasing a new choreography based on the spirit of the Roman Empire, all about courage, strength, and elegance. It was a thrilling experience, and it warmed my heart to share my passion for dance and pink tutus with a whole new audience.

A Feast for the Senses

No trip to Rome would be complete without indulging in the incredible food and flavours. From pasta dishes so delicious they brought tears to my eyes to fresh fruit stands overflowing with sunshine-soaked delicacies, every meal was an adventure. Let's just say my suitcase might be coming home a little heavier than when I left, with lots of yummy snacks for my ballet rehearsals.

Oh, and I must tell you about my gelato discovery. Tucked away in a quaint alley, a small gelateria became my personal heaven on Earth! They had flavors like "Rose Petal Sorbetto" and "Lemon & Elderflower," and even "Chocolate & Pistachio!" I couldn’t resist indulging, and it was simply divine!

Roman Wonders: Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and More!

You'll be glad to hear I didn’t neglect the sights! This city is packed with stunning historical monuments. One afternoon, I spent wandering the impressive Colosseum, picturing gladiatorial combat and the echoes of a bygone era. It's just mind-boggling how ancient these structures are. We often think of history as something in textbooks, but in places like Rome, it leaps out at you from every corner.

The Trevi Fountain was absolutely magical, too. It was overflowing with life, both the magnificent stonework and the crowds throwing coins for good luck. As I stood there, observing the joyful faces and listening to the soothing water fountain, I was overcome with a sense of history and its boundless magic.

Speaking of magic, my little detour to the Pantheon, this architectural marvel, is a must-visit for any art or architecture lover! Its grandeur and ingenuity leave you breathless. The colossal dome seems to hover above, a perfect testament to Roman genius.

And to cap off my week, a little impromptu shopping for the perfect pair of elegant flats for exploring the city’s cobblestone streets, naturally. I've even added some gorgeous silk floral clips to my pink tutu ensemble.

Back to Derbyshire, Recharged & Inspired!

My time in Rome, dear readers, was nothing short of spectacular. This beautiful city, with its charming piazzas, ancient ruins, and intoxicating culture, has truly left a lasting mark on me. As always, it was about so much more than the destination; it's about the journey itself. And this one, full of pastel hues, gelato, opera, and history, has been an incredible experience.

I’m heading back to Derbyshire now, brimming with inspiration. I’m already planning new performances to fund my next grand adventure. Who knows, perhaps my next Pink Tutu stop will be a hidden gem in the Tuscan countryside, or perhaps even the Parisian ballet scene. But wherever I go, my dear readers, you can bet I’ll be sharing every pink tutu-worthy adventure with you right here on this blog.

So, until next week, keep on twirling!

XOXO, Emma
