Hello darlings! Welcome to another wonderful week on the Pink Tutu website. This week I'm in Rome!
My gorgeous pink tulle tutu was swishing with excitement as we zoomed through the Italian countryside, the lush green fields flying by outside the train window. There's nothing more luxurious than travelling by train, it’s so civilized, like being whisked away in a glamorous carriage of dreams, and it lets me have some time to fully indulge in all the little things I love about travelling: magazines, a delicious hot chocolate with lashings of whipped cream (which they call “panna” here in Italy!), watching the world drift past from my comfy little seat.
I have to say I have an absolutely massive crush on Rome. The moment our train pulled into Termini station and I breathed in that glorious scent of old stone, warm air, and… pizza!… my heart skipped a beat. It felt like I’d arrived in a beautiful film set, full of incredible history, art, architecture and amazing fashion – my perfect kind of city!
This week I’ve already squeezed so much into just three days, I barely know where to begin! After arriving at our little hotel (which is perfectly charming, nestled just off a bustling little alleyway in Trastevere), we explored the cobblestone streets with their gorgeous terracotta-coloured houses and vibrant street food.
Let me tell you, there are just so many adorable little cafes and gelaterias, it’s a total feast for the eyes, as well as the stomach. Of course I sampled everything I could – the creamy vanilla gelato was exquisite, with just a hint of honey sweetness, and I am completely smitten with the maritozzi, a big pillowy roll filled with creamy ricotta - oh, heavenly! My pink tulle tutu just flounced around in glee at every bite!
Our first night was spent at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, where I was completely enchanted by a mesmerising performance of Verdi’s Rigoletto. The dramatic lighting, the stunning costumes, the operatic voices... it was just sublime! The next morning I danced straight off to Teatro Palladium, where I met with the gorgeous ballet students at the Roma Danza academy. I have to say, they’re just as enthusiastic about all things dance as I am! It's amazing to meet dancers in all parts of the world, it makes me feel part of one big happy dance family!
Exploring The City of Romance!
Today, my love of the iconic ‘Pink Tutu’ inspired us to head straight to Trevi Fountain - have you ever seen anything so utterly beautiful?! The glittering waters were shimmering in the sunshine, making everything look like it was coated in a light sprinkling of gold dust. And the detail on the marble statues! I could stare at it all day, just dreaming up the tales of those mythical creatures! I even spotted a lovely little pink-tinged tulip tucked in amongst the stones - oh so elegant!
It was only after several pictures and admiring the incredible Roman craftsmanship (and tossing in a couple of euro coins for good luck, of course!), that I realised my heart had completely forgotten about the rest of the day's planned activities! But never fear, a lovely gelateria with raspberry gelato swiftly helped me refocus - because, seriously, raspberry sorbet is simply the perfect solution for all things dreamy, even if it does temporarily take you away from a trip down a Roman history trail.
And Don’t Forget The Food!
Of course, when you’re in a city as captivating as Rome, it would be almost criminal not to be completely captivated by the glorious Italian food and wine. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at a charming family restaurant just outside Trastevere, which has the most delicious spaghetti al pomodoro – I could literally eat this every day! It was topped with shavings of Parmesan, which was as fine and delicate as gossamer lace - a perfect accompaniment! You've gotta have pasta for your daily carbs and carbs need to be balanced. I like my carb to be perfectly beautiful, it's good for the soul, so it's important it looks the part, am I right ladies?
Later, after a cheeky espresso from our little favourite coffee bar, I had a rather romantic stroll back to the hotel through Trastevere - the streets were bursting with life, twinkling with fairy lights, and alive with the gentle hum of harmonious chatter.
I felt very grateful to be surrounded by the charm and the history of Rome - a feeling of adventure and complete and utter joy. I’ve never been anywhere quite like it. If I lived here, I’d definitely be living in the most extravagant pink-tinted tutufull outfit, every single day.
A Special Dress For A Special City
I've even designed a new collection inspired by my Roman trip - my very own line of "Pink Tutu Rome" tutus and clothes, in delicious tones of sunset-coloured pinks, shimmering golds and ivory. Think intricate embroidery inspired by the intricate detail of the Roman fountains and monuments, and sparkling sequins, reflecting the magnificent golden sunsets above the ancient rooftops. You’ll have to stay tuned for when the collection launches, but for now I hope these pictures give you a taste of my Roman dreams!
