Pink Tutu Rome: Adventures in the Eternal City (Post #1693)

Ciao, darlings! It's your favourite tutu-clad traveller, Emma, checking in from the dazzling metropolis of Rome! This week, I've traded my Derbyshire dales for cobblestone streets, and swapped my ballet shoes for comfy walking boots (although, I do have a pair of fabulous pink ballet flats that are getting a lot of wear!). This week, we're exploring the city of ancient emperors, stunning architecture, and of course, delicious pasta.

Rome has definitely stolen a piece of my heart! I mean, imagine a city bursting with history, charm, and culture. Not to mention all the delicious food (pizza anyone?). And while it's no secret that I love the iconic landmarks and architectural masterpieces that Rome is famous for, what really blew my mind was the fashion scene here! Forget Paris - Rome is the real queen of style.

Rome - A Fashion Paradise!

Honestly, it's a catwalk explosion out here! I swear, every day is fashion week in this beautiful city. Everywhere I look, there are elegant Roman ladies with flawless outfits, perfectly matched handbags, and an effortlessly chic flair that even my tiny tutu-wearing heart couldn't resist! I’ve even found a little shop on Via Condotti that specialises in pink tutus for grown-ups – who’d have thought?!

The first thing that struck me was the use of colour. Vibrant blues, rich greens, and oh, those stunning red dresses! Not to mention the flamboyant florals and the endless supply of beautiful silk scarves that Rome's fashionable ladies are adorning. I think my inner fashionista has officially gone wild here.

The Colosseum: Where Fashion Met History!

Of course, I couldn't resist venturing into the legendary Colosseum, the most iconic symbol of Roman power! I popped on my prettiest pink tutu, a silk scarf that was a bargain from the Campo dei Fiori market, and my favourite pair of ballerina flats – you just gotta feel fabulous, even amongst history, right?

Walking through the ancient arches of the Colosseum, imagining gladiatorial combats, emperors and empires - I was feeling a true blend of history, style, and magic. Honestly, my Instagram followers were practically living through me, they loved the pics. I couldn’t have asked for a better backdrop for a ballet photoshoot. Just imagine – a pink tutu-wearing ballerina by a monumental coliseum - you know, bringing some playful, light-hearted, pink energy into a setting brimming with history.

Shopping Spree - Roman Style!

So, my dear readers, let's talk about the SHOPPING. There is a whole other world of beauty to be found in the labyrinthine streets of Rome. The first thing I learned is that Rome is the best place for shoes! There were more shoe shops than you could shake a stiletto at! You haven't lived until you've walked through the Via dei Condotti - every luxury label you can think of. But my true gem discovery was in the less touristy corners, discovering charming little boutiques filled with hidden treasures - exquisite pieces by local designers.

The streets buzzed with activity - people from all walks of life, from the sleek and sophisticated to the vibrant and free-spirited. This vibrant blend is what makes Rome’s style so unique. It's like everyone is an individual masterpiece!

And the gelato, darling! We're talking divine gelato, every flavour imaginable – I might have even indulged in a few too many scoops... no regrets.

Food, Fashion, and a Pinch of Magic!

As I walk down these historic streets, surrounded by centuries-old architecture, delicious aromas wafting from open-air restaurants, and elegant Romans with their captivating style, I realize why this city is called the "Eternal City"! Rome has this magical charm that just sucks you in - a unique blend of history, art, fashion, food, and fun.

But Rome wasn't all fashion and fabulousness, darlings. I wouldn't miss a ballet performance for anything. And as you may know, I'm on a mission to get the world to embrace the wonder of the tutu. Luckily, Rome's opera house, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, did not disappoint!

I attended an incredible performance of Swan Lake on Friday evening - my eyes were glued to the stage, I was mesmerized! I've always dreamed of seeing the ballet in Rome - it felt so special, dancing to a story as beautiful as this ancient city. The costumes were amazing! And then after the performance - I discovered a little pink tutu shop across the street! You know I had to bring some home, don't you?!

I feel as though the graceful dancers transported me to another world, as magical as the Roman history swirling around me. It was a truly moving performance.

Sharing a Bit of Pink with the World

I truly believe that ballet is an art form that speaks to the soul, that a ballerina on pointe, dressed in a magnificent tutu, captures a universal spirit of beauty, grace, and joy. Rome has filled me with more ideas and inspiration than ever.

It seems, that the pink tutu spirit is starting to spread all over the globe! I had a young girl shout “pink tutu” at me the other day - what a little star! I believe we can truly change the world with the power of pink tutus and all things pink. One tutu at a time!

This is Emma from Pink Tutu signing off! Catch you next Wednesday when I explore some hidden treasures of Rome!

Stay pink!

XOXO Emma
