Ciao, darling tutu lovers! It's Emma here, your favourite pink-loving ballerina, and I'm back with another whirlwind adventure! This week, I'm bringing you right to the heart of Italy, to the majestic, ancient, and absolutely fabulous city of Rome.
I'm a little obsessed with train travel, and this trip was no exception. There's something utterly romantic about hurtling across a country, the landscape whizzing past as you sip your cappuccinos and soak up the journey. I even managed to convince a fellow passenger to don a pink tutu for a snap - he seemed to enjoy the experience more than I expected!
Now, Rome. Where do I even begin? It's a city bursting at the seams with history, art, and an unashamedly glamorous vibe. It's like stepping into a movie set - and believe me, I'm more than ready to be the star.
Fashion in Rome:
First things first, let's talk fashion. You know I love a bit of flair, and the Roman street style didn't disappoint. From chic Parisian-inspired looks to flamboyant displays of Italian opulence, every corner of the city was a sartorial feast for the eyes.
Of course, I couldn't resist adding a little pink tutu magic. My favourite find this week was a stunning rose gold tutu from a charming little boutique tucked away in a backstreet near the Pantheon. It twirled like a dream and practically begged to be photographed amongst the iconic Roman architecture. You'll have to wait for those pics, they're going on my Insta!
Rome by Ballet:
Rome isn't just about ancient history and designer handbags, though. There's a vibrant ballet scene here too! This week, I caught a breathtaking performance of Swan Lake at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. It was utterly spellbinding. The dancers, the costumes, the music… it transported me to another world.
Later, I found a little ballet studio near the Trevi Fountain and popped in for a class. The instructor, a stunning Italian ballerina named Sophia, was full of energy and passion. Her instructions were in a beautiful combination of English and Italian – thankfully, my GCSE French from school was just about good enough! It was exhilarating to learn from someone with such expertise and a genuine love for the art form.
Food, glorious food!
No Italian adventure is complete without an indulgence in the country's culinary delights. I was a bit apprehensive about pasta, as my waistline has to fit in my tutus! But Sophia reassured me – as long as I don’t have a big plate, then I’d be okay. How wise!
Family fun:
Even though I'm a busy ballerina with a demanding travel schedule, family is important. And they always want to come on my trips too. As it’s just after Christmas, we were a big family group all together!
We visited the Colosseum and it was mind-blowing. Imagine the gladiators and all the battles - I wonder if they did ballet! Maybe some tutus could help a gladiator out of a sticky situation! The Forum Romanum was just as incredible, filled with remnants of the past. I was completely swept up in the atmosphere. I love how history weaves its way into every part of Roman life.
I even squeezed in a bit of shopping for my parents and some new costumes. My mum loves Roman silk scarves! My dad has just bought a new camera so I think I need to buy some more exciting backdrops and props for my ballet outfits!
And that brings us to the end of this fabulous Roman adventure.
