Pink Tutu Rome: Adventures in the Eternal City! (Post #1717)

Ciao, darlings! Emma here, back from a whirlwind week in the Eternal City! You guys know I love a good adventure, and Rome certainly delivered. Honestly, the sheer history and culture – not to mention the food – left me utterly charmed. But first, let’s talk tutus!

This week, my travel companion was a delightful baby pink tutu. Its frothy layers swayed with every step, making me feel like a graceful ballerina amidst the ancient ruins. It’s amazing how a splash of colour can instantly transform any outfit, and in Rome, the city embraced my pink tutu with open arms. I had all sorts of compliments – "bella!," "perfetto!," even a couple of "you look like a real-life fairy!" from delighted children.

Train Adventures

As usual, I travelled by train. I absolutely adore the journey, it feels so romantic! This time, I found myself gazing out of the window, watching the Italian countryside zip by, dreaming about all the gelato I was going to eat. We arrived at Roma Termini Station and from that point on, I felt utterly swept away.

First up? The Colosseum! The sheer scale of the place just took my breath away. Imagine all the people, all the gladiators, all the drama – it was truly epic. I even managed to snap a photo with a fellow tourist, who wore the most wonderful fuchsia pink beret! I felt a twinge of pride.

Shopping Extravaganza

Rome is a haven for shopping enthusiasts like myself. We walked through the charming boutiques, the designer stores, and the vibrant market stalls. My personal favourite discovery? A tiny shop nestled in a cobblestone lane, crammed with the most incredible vintage shoes and hats. It was a vintage lover's dream. I found myself a pair of sparkly black platform shoes with a pink feather detailing - what's not to love?!

One must-have I picked up? A pair of handmade Roman sandals. Made from beautiful leather, they come in every colour under the sun (of course, I chose pink). I just can’t resist a pair of pretty sandals that allow your toes to breathe. Plus, I am really into sandals now I'm a proper ballerina, they help to train my toes and foot flexibility.

Ballet Bliss in Rome

One of my top highlights? Attending a performance of Giselle at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma! It was absolutely breathtaking. I was so mesmerised by the talent, the intricate costumes, and the graceful movements. It made me long to dance!

As fate would have it, I also discovered a charming ballet studio just a stone’s throw from my hotel. I squeezed in a class the day before I left, just for a bit of practice. The teacher was wonderful – a beautiful Italian woman named Sofia. We even danced to “Il Trovatore” – my absolute favourite.

Of course, I took full advantage of all the wonderful pasta Rome has to offer! It felt so special to enjoy every single bite – and every plate of pasta had an artistic flourish, like a miniature ballet. And then there were the incredible gelato flavours! Lemon, hazelnut, ricotta, rose…the choices were endless.

Inspiring Pink Tutu Moments

As I was browsing through the beautiful Trastevere neighbourhood one evening, I saw something that warmed my heart. A young girl, probably about 10 years old, was wearing a bright pink tutu! It made me smile, I couldn't help myself. And when she saw me looking at her, she shyly giggled.

“Do you like it?,” she said, adjusting the fabric of her tutu. “My mum bought it for me. It's my favourite! It makes me feel like a ballerina!”

It was a simple moment, but it filled me with so much joy. I was reminded of how special it is to feel comfortable and confident in our own skin, no matter how brightly colored our tutu may be.

Reflections on Rome

So, that was my time in Rome! It was an amazing journey, a beautiful city, filled with incredible art, history, food and above all… a little bit of magic. It left me feeling inspired, wanting to see the world, feel all the wonder, and wear as much pink as I possibly can!

I’ll be back in Derbyshire next week, with a new batch of outfits to share, so stay tuned. And remember, ladies, life's too short not to embrace the power of pink, and who knows? Maybe you’ll find a tutu that calls your name. Until next week, my dears!

Ciao for now,

Emma xoxo

P.S. This Wednesday, May 3rd, 2028, the world will celebrate the “International Day of the Ballerina!” What better excuse to wear a tutu and show your love for all things graceful and delicate! I'll be posting all my favourite ballet images to my instagram - @pinktutuemma, don't forget to tag me!
