Buongiorno, darlings! It’s your favourite pink tutu-clad traveller, Emma, back from the cobbled streets of Rome! This week's journey takes us to the Eternal City, a place dripping in history, culture, and let’s be honest, the most exquisite gelato I’ve ever tasted (pistachio, if you’re asking).
Now, as you know, this pink tutu ain't afraid to explore, and this time, Rome’s allure was too strong to resist. After all, a girl’s gotta get her Roman holiday, right? Especially when you can arrive in style, perched on a luxurious train carriage, all my luggage packed and a pink-hued polka dot dress flowing behind me, whispering a “Ciao Bella” to the passing Italian countryside.
Let’s just say I’ve gone completely head over heels for this vibrant, captivating city. The scent of coffee in the morning air, the joyous chaos of scooters zipping through the streets, the sun-drenched squares echoing with laughter - Rome is a city that awakens your senses! And you know what’s even better? That same energy spills over into the art, the fashion, and of course, the food. Oh, the food! You could eat like a queen here for weeks, and still never manage to try it all.
Now, some of you might be thinking, "Emma, how did you get to Rome?" Well, remember those breathtaking ballet performances I mentioned? Those are my little financial angels. Each pirouette, each graceful leap is an investment in adventures like this, allowing me to live out my dreams. Rome wouldn’t have happened without my little pirouette partners, so a huge thank you to them for always supporting this pink tutu’s travels.
This week’s itinerary was a whirlwind of sightseeing, shopping and… well, more gelato. I'm not ashamed to admit that gelato sampling became a kind of culinary ballet for me, flitting from shop to shop, each one vying for my affections. I’m already a pro at judging their creamy goodness. Don't even get me started on the delectable local cheese, though I’ll spare you the cheeseboard photos. Maybe I'll dedicate a whole post to them later - we're talking artistry here!
One of my favourite highlights of the week was definitely the visit to the Vatican City. Standing before Michelangelo's "The Last Judgement," painted on the Sistine Chapel's ceiling, was truly breathtaking. It’s incredible to imagine all the layers of history imbued in those very walls.
Speaking of artistic masterpieces, the art museums of Rome, with their Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces, are a must-see! And for you fashionistas out there, the shopping is beyond heavenly. Leather goods, beautiful accessories, fabulous Italian designers… the fashion here just screams "fabulous!" Of course, I found myself some delightful additions to my own pink wardrobe, including a brand-new silk scarf featuring intricate floral motifs – absolutely perfect for adding a touch of Roman romance to my outfits.
And of course, no trip to Italy is complete without witnessing the magic of an Italian opera! It was a night I'll never forget, sitting in a magnificent opera house, dressed in my tulle dress and a pink velvet shawl, as the soaring voices of the singers transported me to another realm.
You might be thinking, "But Emma, weren't you supposed to mention the ballet?" Oh, absolutely! While Rome is famed for its opera, it boasts a flourishing ballet scene as well! The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma has a renowned company, and while I was in town, they happened to be performing a truly exceptional piece called "Giselle" by Adolphe Adam. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to experience ballet in such a beautiful setting.
Did you know: Italy holds a unique position in the history of ballet, as the birthplace of several influential ballet styles, including the “Accademia Nazionale di Danza” in Rome.
Now, before I leave you to dream of all things Rome and pink tutus, let me leave you with a bit of wisdom I gleaned during my Roman adventures: life, just like Rome, is all about discovering the beautiful things in every corner. You just have to open your heart, your eyes, and sometimes, your mouth, and allow yourself to be swept away by the adventure! And let’s not forget, a dash of pink in your wardrobe will certainly never hurt, darling!
I hope you’ve enjoyed my Rome adventure, my lovelies. Stay tuned next Wednesday for more travel adventures from this pink tutu, as we explore new corners of the world and bring a touch of sparkle everywhere we go!
Ciao for now!
Love,
Emma
