Hello, darling tutu-lovers! It's Wednesday, the day you all know what to expect - a brand-new Pink Tutu Rome post!
This week, I'm taking you all on a whirlwind journey to the heart of Italy: Rome! I've dreamt of visiting this historic city for years, and thanks to a fabulous run of ballet performances in Derbyshire, I managed to squeeze in a trip to Rome. (You can’t believe how many tutus flew off the shelves after that “Sleeping Beauty” performance last month!)
But Rome isn't just about ancient ruins and piazzas, it’s about a vibrant, passionate spirit that oozes from every cobblestone and every cafe. I even spied a street performance this morning - a ballerina! Honestly, it just added to the whole "enchanted" feeling. Rome just screams "pink tutu adventure!" and I'm embracing it with all my heart.
(And oh my gosh, did you know Rome is actually hosting a fabulous "International Ballet Festival" starting on December 20th?! Just my luck, a mere day after I arrive! The thought of watching a ballet in this ancient city, beneath a twinkling sky… well, darling, you’ve simply GOT to believe this is magical!)
Now, onto the Pink Tutu Rome Chronicles! I hopped off the Eurostar - my absolute favourite mode of travel! (I actually managed to wear a mini tutu with my trusty pink boots. Travelling in style, of course.) - and the moment I set foot in Rome's Termini Station, I knew this trip would be special.
I'm staying at this delightful little hotel, just a stone's throw from the Trevi Fountain. This tiny, pastel pink gem - did I tell you that I’m slightly obsessed with pink? - boasts the cutest courtyard imaginable, filled with blooming flowers and terracotta tiles. Perfect for sipping espresso while soaking up the Roman sun. And the breakfast buffet, my dears? An explosion of colours, textures, and flavours - an absolute ballet for the senses!
Naturally, the first stop on my "Pink Tutu Rome" agenda was the Colosseum. This place is incredible, simply majestic. It's like stepping back in time to a world of gladiators, emperors, and of course, lots of drama - something we all know ballerinas have a knack for. And let’s not forget the sheer scale - this structure makes even my most ambitious twirls look petite!
Speaking of drama, the first evening I strolled through Rome, I was mesmerized by a little street performance. Right in front of the Pantheon! This talented, young dancer was wearing the most gorgeous tulle skirt and shimmering shoes… It was quite a captivating experience! This, I realized, is the true magic of Rome; everywhere you look, art comes to life!
You see, Rome is like an open-air museum - there’s something around every corner, something breathtaking in every alley. It makes me wish I had even more time, even more days to dedicate to my pink tutu tour of this remarkable city. But, darling, what’s a ballerina to do with all the excitement?
*Here’s a little sneak peek of my Roman Adventures so far: *
- Shopping in Trastevere: My little heart danced when I discovered this bohemian paradise of a neighbourhood. All the quirky shops, vintage treasures, and leather handbags! I’ve fallen head over heels for a beautiful blush pink handbag with a sparkly floral design – perfect for ballet shoes and lipstick!
- Soothing Roman Baths: Imagine my joy when I stumbled upon the Baths of Caracalla. So opulent! And that calming water, surrounded by ancient arches? Honestly, this is what spa dreams are made of. And guess what? The baths have a secret! There’s a hidden bar underneath the ruins where they serve the best pink champagne cocktails in Rome! Talk about extra.
- Roman Sunset: It’s something magical to behold! A sky of fiery oranges and pinks… a true spectacle, made for pink tutus. I found the most spectacular view on the rooftop of the hotel - even caught a few twirls with the beautiful Roman panorama!
- The Italian Aperitivo Scene: Imagine the scene – beautiful piazzas filled with people chatting, laughter, delicious snacks, and endless glasses of wine! Aperitivo is practically an art form, and my pink tutu simply complements this Italian ritual perfectly.
But it’s not all about glitz and glam, dear readers. Sometimes, the simplest pleasures are the best. It’s all about soaking in the atmosphere. Wandering down cobblestone streets lined with colourful buildings and blooming bougainvillea. Taking a morning stroll around the Vatican City, marveling at its breathtaking scale, history, and of course, beauty.
And let's talk about the food! Delicious pasta, juicy pizzas, and gelato that's so good it should be outlawed (or at least have a warning label). The Italian people have an infectious passion for their culture and their food. It's almost as if they wear their hearts on their plates.
My Roman adventures haven't finished just yet. I still have so much to see and do! A trip to the Vatican, perhaps some pasta making classes, maybe even a spontaneous flamenco performance - or at least an evening spent admiring some beautiful dancing - because there is no such thing as too much dance in my opinion.
Remember to visit www.pink-tutu.com next Wednesday for more fun, feminine adventures from Pink Tutu Rome! Don’t forget to check out the latest “pink tutu style” guide, as I'm sure I will have quite a lot of pictures to show you all.
Until then, stay pink, stay sparkly, and remember: the world needs more pink tutus!
Lots of Love, Emma x
