Sutton in Ashfield: Tutu Tales & Railway Romance (Post #2725)

Oh, my darlings! Can you believe it? December already! The festive season is in full swing, and the air is filled with the scent of gingerbread and cinnamon – truly divine! Today, I embarked on a rather lovely journey to Sutton in Ashfield, and let me tell you, it was an adventure fit for a pink-tutu-clad princess!

Now, you know how much I adore my trains. The rhythmic clickety-clack of the wheels, the gentle swaying of the carriage – it’s the perfect way to unwind and let the creative juices flow. My outfit today, you ask? Why, a vibrant coral tutu, naturally! It paired perfectly with a vintage black cardigan and my favourite scarlet beret – a little splash of colour against the wintry backdrop.

Arriving in Sutton in Ashfield, I felt a surge of excitement. The charming little town seemed to whisper stories of quaint tea shops, bustling market squares, and maybe even a few hidden gems just waiting to be discovered.

My first stop? The ever-so-lovely Theatrical Treats. This delightful shop was bursting at the seams with costume treasures, vintage finery, and enough sequins to sparkle a galaxy. The owner, a woman with the most wonderful rosy cheeks and twinkling eyes, helped me find the perfect feather boa – a sumptuous lilac hue to match my adventurous spirit.

Feeling absolutely fabulous, I ventured out to explore the heart of Sutton in Ashfield. And let me tell you, this town is truly enchanting. The historic market square with its grand Victorian buildings and cobbled streets took me back in time. I found myself lost in a world of antique shops, independent boutiques, and the most delicious-smelling bakery you can imagine! It felt like stepping into a Dickensian Christmas scene, but with a sprinkle of modern-day magic.

The afternoon unfolded like a dream. A visit to the quaint Ashfield District Museum, with its captivating exhibits, followed by a delightful stroll through the enchanting Hardwick Hall, a true testament to Elizabethan grandeur. I’m a sucker for old castles, and this one had a touch of ‘Fairytale’ to it!

Speaking of castles, wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all transform the everyday into a fairytale, even if just for a little while? Imagine if the commuters on the 6:15 train each morning wore their own pink tutus – think of the joyful chaos! Or imagine walking down a bustling London street with a herd of fellow tutu wearers, sharing smiles and knowing winks, as we dance our way through life’s little routines! Wouldn’t that be amazing?!

Of course, there's more to Sutton in Ashfield than just the beautiful buildings and vintage shops! It's also home to a rich natural heritage. And how could I, the Tutu Princess, leave without a little nature excursion?

So, after a splendid cuppa (you simply must try the peppermint tea at the little cafe by the square – divine!), I headed off to explore Kings Mill Park. The winter sun dipped between the trees, casting long shadows on the pathways and making the leaves look like fallen confetti. The air was crisp, and the wind whispered through the branches, creating a symphony of natural music. It was absolutely breathtaking!

I’m telling you, my darlings, if you ever find yourself in need of a little escapade, a little enchantment, or just a big dollop of 'pink-tutu-magic', then Sutton in Ashfield should be on your list! It’s a town with a captivating charm and an atmosphere that truly gets under your skin. And if you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the local wildlife, just like I did – a little hedgehog snuggled under a log, a pair of cheeky robins flitting about the branches.

This delightful day out has rekindled my love for the simple things – the joy of exploration, the beauty of a sunlit day, the warmth of a friendly hello. And of course, it’s reminded me of the pure power of a good tutu to make everything a little brighter, a little more sparkly, and a lot more fun!

Until next time, my darlings! Stay fabulous and keep those pink tutus twirling!

Yours in sparkle and delight,

Emma xx
