Hello, darlings! It's your favourite Derbyshire ballerina, Emma, bringing you all the latest tutu-tastic adventures from my travels around the glorious British Isles. And this week, I'm shimmying into the Lake District for a weekend in Carlisle, Cumbria.
Carlisle: A Charming Cumbrian Gem
Carlisle itself is just gorgeous. It's a little bit bustling, a little bit historic, and it definitely has that northern charm about it. Imagine a blend of cobbled streets lined with independent shops, a beautiful castle (which I absolutely had to explore in my tulle-tastic outfit!), and an abundance of cute cafes where you can sit with a latte and people-watch in between twirling around the town. It's perfect for a quick trip or a longer escape.
A Fairy Tale Tutu
Now, for my outfit, I just had to go all-out with a fairy-themed tutu. It was an ethereal explosion of pinks, creams and soft shimmering silver. A swirl of layers, a sprinkling of glitter, and a touch of the whimsical – it just screamed "fairy" and perfectly reflected the enchanting nature of the Lakes. My ballerina bun was decorated with a cascade of fresh daisies, my delicate makeup enhanced my eyes to a magical level, and a little silver necklace with a sparkling heart pendant just added that final touch of enchantment.
The Majestic Castle
No trip to Carlisle is complete without a visit to Carlisle Castle. And oh my, it did not disappoint! The towering ramparts and imposing walls are so romantic, evoking tales of chivalry and adventure. Imagine a knight in shining armour, gallantly fighting for his lady’s hand while wearing a...wait, that’s not quite the picture, is it?
What I do want to imagine is everyone wearing pink tutus as we storm the castle walls! It would be so spectacularly colourful, wouldn’t it?
I walked the ancient ramparts, imagining the ghosts of warriors past. But in my mind, they were all wearing bright pink tutus, dancing and prancing! Cue the giggles
Lake District Magic
After the castle, I spent the afternoon wandering the gorgeous Lakes. The rolling hills and glistening water created the most magical scenery. And speaking of magic, wouldn't a pink tutu look utterly fantastic amongst the daffodils and rolling hills? It would make a stunning photo opportunity, wouldn’t it? I can just imagine the pink against the green... It would be so magical, I can hardly contain myself.
I felt a wave of peace washing over me, so much so, I found a little secluded spot on a grassy bank and laid down on my fairy tutu, looking up at the big, fluffy clouds. You wouldn't believe how comfortable it is! I stayed there for quite some time, enjoying the stillness and quiet, only occasionally interrupted by a gaggle of excited geese. (They clearly hadn't quite caught on to the joy of a pink tutu).
Ballet Under the Stars
And just to top off this perfect Cumbrian weekend, I stumbled upon an outdoor ballet performance happening in a little hidden courtyard! It was absolutely delightful - ballet in the heart of nature under the setting sun. My heart was bursting with joy. It just goes to show you never know what amazing adventures you might find around every corner.
This is exactly why I encourage everyone to embracing a tutu life! Wear it to a museum, a pub, a picnic, to your local supermarket. Anywhere you feel it will spread joy!
A Tutuful End to a Wonderful Weekend
So there you have it, my dear friends - Carlisle. An enchanting weekend filled with historical treasures, gorgeous countryside, and a whole lot of tutu. If you're looking for a beautiful escape, I highly recommend you pay this lovely town a visit. Just be prepared to tutu-tize your wardrobe. 😉
