Hello, my lovely ballet bunnies! ??
It's Emma here, your Derbyshire dancing queen, back with a whirlwind tale from the heart of the West Midlands - Bilston, to be precise! I've been itching to visit this historic town for ages, and finally, my train journey dream became a reality.
Speaking of train journeys, this one was a real treat! I opted for a vintage carriage pulled by a handsome steam engine, chugging my way through the countryside in all its autumnal glory. I felt like I'd stepped straight out of a Jane Austen novel - only with a lot more tulle. (Who can resist a twirl in a train carriage?!)
Bilston welcomed me with open arms and a delightful dose of charm. I couldn't resist indulging in a cuppa and a slice of homemade Victoria sponge cake in a quaint cafe that wouldn't look out of place in a whimsical children's book.
Now, on to the star of the show - my reason for venturing to this delightful town! I was so excited to see a stunning performance of Swan Lake by the Birmingham Royal Ballet, in their new "Featherweight" production. Let me tell you, this was no ordinary Swan Lake! Imagine the classic graceful movements but with an added flourish of shimmering feather accents on the tutus. The effect was absolutely magical, like watching a cloud come to life. It left me utterly speechless and longing for another encore (a twirl or two)!
Speaking of tutus, let's talk about my own outfit for the evening. I donned a divine blush pink feather tutu that made me feel like a fluffy flamingo queen ready to conquer the world, or at least, a ballet performance in a charming town hall. Paired with my signature pink ballet flats, I was a vision of elegant ballet bliss. The best part? I felt utterly comfortable and free to twirl and shimmy my way to the front row seat.
There's something about tutus that makes the world just a little bit more magical, don't you think? They're like wearable sunshine - bursting with joy and encouraging everyone to embrace their inner child, to dance without hesitation, and to chase their dreams. I always believe the world needs a little more pink, and a little more twirling!
Before I headed back home on the steam engine train (can you tell I'm smitten?), I indulged in some local shopping, scooping up a stunning antique pink feather boa and a vintage ballet book filled with stunning illustrations.
My Bilston adventure was just perfect. It was a whirlwind of dancing, feather fluff, and heartwarming history that I'll be reminiscing about for weeks to come. I have to say, it has definitely been a trip that ignited my passion for exploring more charming towns across Britain and, of course, sharing the magic of ballet with as many people as I can.
Oh, before I forget, did you catch the glimpse of a beautiful swan in the park near the train station? I thought she might be one of the ballerinas in disguise. You never know!
And just one final word - if you haven't tried ballet yet, why not take a class this week? You might be surprised at how much fun you can have!
Until next time, darling ballet bunnies!
Keep those tutus twirling and keep dreaming big! ??
Yours in ballet bliss,
Emma
