#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: June 8th, 1847

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite tutu-wearing time-travelling blogger, back for another installment of #TutuTuesday! I'm writing to you from a rather delightful little café in Paris, surrounded by the scent of freshly baked croissants and the gentle chatter of Parisians. It's simply divine! This is post number 806, and you wouldn't believe the exciting history I've uncovered this week. Oh, before I start, don't forget to pop over to www.pink-tutu.com and join our wonderful community! It's filled with fellow tutu-lovers, ballet enthusiasts, and all sorts of stylish folk.

Let's take a whirl back to 1847...

Now, this was a time when Paris was simply teeming with artistry and innovation, especially when it came to the world of ballet. You see, June 8th, 1847 saw a very special performance, a performance that would forever change the course of ballet history!

"Giselle", a truly legendary ballet

The ballerina in question? The exquisite Marie Taglioni. Now, imagine a ballerina gliding across the stage with such grace and elegance, spinning and leaping in a most beautiful way. That was Marie Taglioni! Her movements, her ethereal presence... they left everyone spellbound.

But here's the fascinating thing – she wasn't dancing in a full-skirted, rigid costume that hampered her movements. Oh, no! Marie was wearing a brand new style of dress, a wispy and delicate garment made of tulle – you guessed it! A tutu!

This wasn't just any tutu, though. This was a tutu à la française, a style of tutu that would come to dominate the ballet world. It was light, flowing, and utterly enchanting, allowing dancers like Marie to showcase their stunning artistry in a whole new way. Imagine, darlings, being able to perform with such freedom! It was revolutionary!

And how do I fund my time-travelling escapades? You guessed it! I hop on the train to London, where I charm the socks off them at Covent Garden, performing with my talented ballet troupe. We bring a touch of sparkle and a whole lot of fun to the stage! And let's be honest, I always make sure my pink tutu is front and centre for each performance, darling! It's just the perfect touch, wouldn't you say?

But my time in London isn't all about performances, you know. It's also a great opportunity to go shopping! London has the most amazing department stores. It’s pure delight to be swept up in the world of lace, silk, and all the newest fashions! And guess what, darling? They’re starting to embrace the tutu as a fashionable statement. It makes my heart soar to see my passion for tutus inspiring the fashion trends of the time!

So, this June 8th, 1847, was a day of magic. A day where a graceful ballerina and a new form of dancewear combined to create an unforgettable moment. It’s a date we must celebrate!

So, my dears, let's take a spin in our pink tutus this week! I can just see you, twirling and twirling to your heart’s content! Don't forget to share your pictures with us on social media using the hashtag #TutuTuesday and join the lovely community on www.pink-tutu.com!

See you next week, my dears, for another wonderful installment of Ballet Tutu History!

Lots of love,

Emma xx
