#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 1931.04.21! 🩰🌸

Hello darlings, and welcome to this week's #TutuTuesday on Pink-Tutu.com. I’m your delightful guide Emma, fresh back from a little whirl in time, and I’ve got a real treat for you today - let’s travel back to 1931! It's my 5182nd post for you, and you've got to see the fantastic tutus of this era!

First, imagine: a journey across Europe, taking the train (always the most charming mode of transport!) to Paris! It’s the beginning of the ballet season there - it's practically buzzing with anticipation - I adore Paris at this time of year! This gorgeous city's vibrant arts scene is about to explode with elegance and movement.

The Grand Palais - what a magnificent place! It's filled to bursting with ballet enthusiasts - even my pink tutu doesn’t quite stand out as much as it usually does in this crowd of stylish admirers. The buzz is electrifying – an almost palpable sense of excitement.

Speaking of excitement - this is the time for a ballet I know well: "The Sleeping Beauty", by the famous Russian choreographer, Marius Petipa. Oh my! He really did some sensational tutus back in the 1800s, and you just know this version is going to be utterly stunning. It was originally choreographed in 1890, but in 1931, it's revived by the great Sergueï Diaghilev, at the Ballets Russes and is completely transforming how ballet looks and is experienced.

But let’s talk about the tutus, darlings! Oh my - there's such an elegant symphony of pleats and layers – absolutely exquisite! We've reached the era of shortened tutus, and those gorgeous swirling, frilly petticoats – just divine. I must add that some very stylish tutus – particularly in “The Sleeping Beauty” – have lace trims. It’s all very ethereal and fairytale-esque – and the whole look is totally captivating! It truly evokes the timeless romance of "The Sleeping Beauty"!

What I adore most, however, are the colour choices. You just have to look at how many stunning shades of pink were used! Even the most dainty pink chiffons, to exquisite shades of fuchsia. All, darling, with a hint of sparkling glitter for good measure! The costumes were simply dazzling, so beautifully crafted with so much love!

While we're on the subject of colour, ballet costumes are all about those dramatic flourishes. Look at the vibrant blues and striking reds of "La Valse". What drama, what sophistication, what beauty! All those wonderful contrasting hues create a spectacle that’s simply awe-inspiring!

Even though the tutus in the "Sleeping Beauty" aren’t as extreme in terms of colour, they still offer up a kaleidoscope of delicate pastels and shimmering creams. A beautiful spectacle. And the use of flowers! – oh, simply glorious! Such artistry and finesse! In Pink-Tutu terms, it’s utterly magnificent! I simply must visit the Ballets Russes studio during this visit! I will, I know, I just have to... but for now, it is the time for shopping for more delightful pink, lacy trims, so I shall head back to the department stores of Paris, to discover new inspiration to add to Pink-Tutu.com – see you next week, darlings, and do try to embrace the tutus for you this week!
