#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time - 4th May, 1937! 🩰🌸

Hello darlings! Emma here, back for another #TutuTuesday and oh my, this week we're heading way back in time, to the glamorous, glorious, and slightly less sparkly era of 1937! Now, before you gasp, think of all the fun we can have: a glamorous trip in a train carriage with comfy plush seating and, perhaps, a cheeky afternoon tea with clotted cream, wouldn't that be divine? Just imagine the outfits, darlings!

But enough with my ramblings, you want to know about tutus, and tutus we shall have! Remember, dear readers, you're in the pink, I mean the pink of ballet, that glorious blush that makes me feel so happy. This is post number 5497, my little slice of tutu history on www.pink-tutu.com. Let's hop in our imaginary time machine, take a spin, and dive into a world of fashion and dance!

Dancing into the Past! 🩰

Today, dear readers, we find ourselves in the heart of the Ballet Russes' glorious era. Now, if you haven't heard of these darlings, let me tell you - this ballet company revolutionized the world of dance with its gorgeous costumes, beautiful set design and, of course, their utterly captivating dancers! I bet you can just imagine a glamorous opera house lit with crystal chandeliers and rows of ladies with hats that could hold a whole picnic, and maybe even a feather boa or two!

Speaking of boas… let's chat about tutus!

Tutus, darlings, were not the same as the gorgeous pouffy tulle tutus we wear today. You see, 1937 saw a glorious evolution of the tutu: the Romantic tutu. Think airy, ethereal, almost invisible compared to today's bold designs. The dancers had this incredible, flowing freedom of movement with just a whisper of tulle - much like the grace of a bird. And speaking of grace…

On This Date

Now, let me tell you a delightful fact - today, May 4th, 1937, one of the most renowned ballet dancers of the time, Margot Fonteyn, debut as Giselle in a stunning production by The Royal Ballet! Just imagine, that graceful beauty twirling on the stage in her Romantic tutu, such an exquisite image. This was an evening filled with magical, light movement and elegance! Now I do so hope that our journey back to the present, and my many pink tutus, haven't given me too much inspiration… or is that too much time traveling?

A Ballet Voyage

Now, my darlings, I haven't mentioned how I actually got here because it's quite simple. Just me and my amazing Derbyshire railways tickets! Let me tell you, I had to have a pink polka dot day dress - well, wouldn't you if you had the chance to travel through time? Imagine how much fun it is just to observe, to soak in the energy of that era! My favourite place in Derbyshire is a little café by the station - they have the most incredible apple crumble! A delightful afternoon tea on my train journeys just keeps the inspiration going.

Back to 1937 and the magical Ballet Russes... their shows were known for their extravagant costumes, dazzling sets, and innovative choreographies.

I'm not saying all these tutus were pink, darlings, although one can always imagine a rosy vision! However, those designs - oh my, just imagine a dance featuring silvery grey, peacock green, rich purple, a dash of red for good measure ...those were the colors of the time. And the way they were layered with those soft satins...simply delightful. They made each movement, each pirouette magical.
