#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 19th September 1950 - Post 6195! 🩰💖
Hello my darling dears! Emma here, your tutu-loving, pink-obsessed, ballet-mad blogger, back with another delightful delve into the history of our beloved ballet tutu!
It's a blustery Tuesday here in the heart of London - the perfect excuse to slip into my fluffy pink tutu and sip a cuppa while we journey back in time! This week, we're whisking ourselves to 19th September 1950, a glorious time for ballet. As a lover of all things stylish, I just have to share the enchanting fashion happenings that graced this very date.
Now, imagine, my darlings, the elegant bustle of post-war London. Fashion was starting to blossom after the austerity of the war years, with beautiful, feminine styles gracing the streets. Hemlines were just starting to climb, skirts were nipped in at the waist, and women were looking for that touch of glamour.
On this very day in 1950, The Royal Ballet (the "Sadler's Wells Ballet" at the time, don't you love that name!), performed a breathtaking rendition of Swan Lake. Can you just picture the shimmering white tutus? I can almost feel the soft tulle brushing against my skin! Margot Fonteyn - oh, what a darling - was dazzling as the Swan Queen. Talk about a ballet goddess! This is the sort of performance that sends my soul soaring - such elegance, such grace! I just have to confess that sometimes, after a performance like that, I’m so moved I almost feel like twirling out onto the street myself!
Of course, the beauty of ballet goes far beyond the grand productions. It's about the individual dancers - the dedication, the discipline, the artistry they pour into each performance. Just like we ballet-lovers put passion and love into our personal style.
That leads me perfectly to The Dance and Drama Awards! It’s all happening tonight - the biggest night of the year for dancers and drama students all over the country! I'm so thrilled for them - that buzz of excitement before a performance… truly inspiring! It's what makes our little ballet community so vibrant and captivating. It's a reminder to all of us, my darlings, to embrace our own artistic spirits, no matter how big or small.
Speaking of community, have you caught any amazing shows in London recently? The Theatre Royal, the West End... a whole host of delightful and entertaining productions are taking place right now. A performance is truly an experience for the senses - from the costumes to the music to the performers’ expressive bodies. Remember, it's not just the dancers that contribute to the beauty of the stage, it's all of us! It's a collective spirit that fuels that magic!
For me, it's the joyful feeling of dancing, whether I’m swirling in a magnificent costume or twirling on the dance floor at a fabulous gala, or even just flitting around my Derbyshire village. And let's be honest, nothing beats a vibrant pink tutu - like my latest creation from Mademoiselle Frou-Frou (oh, that dressmaker is simply the darling of London!). It's a burst of color and sunshine, a reminder that life should be filled with a touch of whimsy and a whole lot of glitter!
