#TutuTuesday: A Twirl Through Time - 1963! 🩰

Hello my darlings, and welcome to this week’s #TutuTuesday post! As you know, here at Pink Tutu we travel through the annals of ballet history, uncovering the glorious and colourful stories behind the iconic tutu! This week, we are time-travelling to the oh-so-chic summer of 1963, just before I nipped off to see the spectacular new Giselle production in London - which is a definite must-see if you’re in the city this year, trust me! (Oh, did I mention I just adore ballet, theatre, and the utterly divine city of London? It's so sophisticated - almost as chic as my current collection of tutus!)

So, buckle up my lovelies, grab your tea, and let’s embark on a glamorous trip through the shimmering world of ballet fashion in the year 1963! You’ll never believe this – but I bet you couldn’t guess who my ultimate style icon from that era is – It’s the amazing Margot Fonteyn. Talk about chic and elegant! Oh, if I could only spin in her Swan Lake tutu! But anyway, on with our sartorial journey...

Now, 1963 - a year where fashion was positively bubbling over with excitement and a whole lot of fun. And you can bet your bottom dollar that the world of ballet wasn’t missing out on all the fabulous new trends!

This era saw a vibrant fusion of classic silhouettes and daring new lines, much like my own personal style (though, let's face it, my own creations are arguably more daring, darling!). For example, you would find ballerina outfits adorned with the revolutionary 'swinging '60s' trends like bold colour blocking, geometrical patterns, and a playful mix of textures. The classic, elegant tutus we've seen before were now being paired with boldly-coloured leotards – oh, and it seems that shorter, almost cheeky tutus were the rage! Talk about liberating! A whole new style of ballet choreography emerged that complemented the evolving tutu shape and all of these new fashion elements. I bet that was quite an exciting time to be a dancer!

You know, my heart is set on sourcing some beautiful old '60s tutus for my collection - think long lines, striking shapes, a hint of rebellion. As for me? Well, I just can’t resist slipping into a beautiful tutu whenever I’m able! Pink is definitely my favourite - nothing screams "feminine glamour" like a luscious pink tutu! And who knows? Maybe my obsession will inspire some other fashion-forward individuals to join the Tutu Revolution, too!

Oh, how I love discovering the colourful history of ballet - the tutus, the choreography, the music - all coming together to create a whirlwind of emotions! For example, today is the 27th of August, 1963 - and you know what that means? A brand new ballet season is kicking off in our favourite Derbyshire Theatre! A friend of mine has a season ticket – I'm practically itching to wear my new baby pink tutu to the first night! Speaking of the new season, I hear they're bringing back Giselle this year. And to think, back in London I saw a truly spectacular rendition, and I even got a chance to chat with one of the ballerinas - it's funny how I've become such a social butterfly thanks to my little adventures in time! But you know me, darling, I adore soaking in every bit of the ballet experience. The elegant dresses, the dazzling choreography, the passionate storytelling, the delicate melodies – it's a symphony for the senses.

Remember, lovelies, keep those tutus spinning and those hearts dancing! Stay tuned for more adventures through time - you’ll definitely be wanting to stick around next Tuesday, for I shall be whisking you back to 1886 - can you believe? - the golden age of ballet in Paris.

But until then, embrace the pink, twirl with passion, and live your life with a dash of grace and a touch of… well, you know.

Stay chic, my dear darlings, Emma
