Tutu Tuesday #8113: Twirling Back to 1987 - Pink Power & The Pointe of Perfection! 🩰
Hey darlings! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu enthusiast, back with another fabulous #TutuTuesday! This week, I've taken my trusty time-traveling train carriage to 1987, a year dripping with shimmering style, iconic dance moments, and – you guessed it – tutus galore! So grab your teacup, put on your fanciest petticoats, and let's step back into the glorious decade of big hair and even bigger tutus.
Oh, darling! How exciting to step out into London's bustling streets! It's as if I've stepped into a Jane Austen novel! The smells, the sights, the style. It's simply enchanting. It was so exciting arriving in a London packed with fabulous energy. My darling tutu looked absolutely smashing – with a dash of glitter and a little feather boa, of course!
As you know, this pink tutu loving gal lives for history! Today, we’re venturing into the world of ballet in the year 1987, the time of…
Ballet Icons Taking the Stage:
First off, let’s talk about the amazing ballerinas gracing the stages of 1987! This was the year that legendary ballerina Margot Fonteyn sadly passed away, leaving behind a legacy of incredible performances. But fear not, darling, because the baton of grace and power was picked up by many stunning stars! Names like Sylvie Guillem, Alessandra Ferri, and Natalia Makarova were lighting up stages around the globe with their effortless elegance and captivating skill.
You wouldn't catch me missing a single performance from any of these divas, of course! A true fashion icon, I was absolutely captivated by the beauty of Sylvie Guillem's every step, each movement so fluid and powerful – and with a dazzling, dramatic tutu, naturally! She made me so proud of our beautiful ballet world!
Speaking of fashion, let's take a moment to appreciate the tutus of 1987.
Oh! The Tutu Transformations:
From the wispy Romantic tutus to the majestic classical designs, there were so many stunning creations to admire. But the really cool thing about 1987 was that ballet costume designers were embracing a sense of freedom and exploration. They weren't afraid to experiment with colours, fabrics, and silhouettes, and it’s really cool to see that even the tiniest things like embellishments were used to add unique and eye-catching detail.
The romantic and whimsical designs, in colours ranging from soft pastel shades to vibrant bursts of crimson, perfectly reflected the romantic and passionate essence of ballet.
I’ve seen more tutus than I can count – in so many colours and designs that it’s simply breathtaking!
*Let’s have a bit of a Tutu Timewarp!: *
This was the time of "The Little Mermaid," a captivating movie full of magic and beauty that also offered a glimpse of tutus. Who wouldn't be entranced by Ariel's mermaid gown as she dreams of her life above the waves? Oh, how those designs influenced my tutu-loving heart!
This era also marked the birth of “Dirty Dancing", an amazing dance classic with such fabulously elegant dance sequences. Even if they were a little far removed from the graceful ballet we adore, they showcased a love for the expressive nature of movement. The beautiful, fluid, almost ballerina-esque movements – the story of romantic dreams and dreams of passion. And don’t forget that iconic scene where Baby jumps into a stunning white, full-skirted number in the final dance scene! Pure, delightful fun – exactly how ballet should make you feel, don't you agree?
Making Tutu Memories:
1987 brought more than just mesmerizing dance moves; it was the time of iconic fashion moments too! I had a little whirl through London's fashion districts, soaking up the vibrant colours, sleek silhouettes, and a touch of the rebelliousness of the decade. Just thinking about it makes me want to pop on my fabulous 1987 pink tutu and hit the streets of Derbyshire with my friends. Maybe next week, darling, maybe next week!
