Tutu Tuesday: #8295 – Back in Time to 1990! 🩰💖

Hey tutu lovers! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink-tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina. It’s Tuesday, which means it’s time for another exciting trip into the history of our beloved tutu!

This week, we're heading back to December 18th, 1990, a time when the world was getting ready to say hello to the 90s in full swing. This was also the year that "Pretty Woman" made us all want to run out and buy a big red dress, so it’s pretty safe to say that fashion was fabulous!

This trip took me all the way to New York City, the capital of the world when it comes to theatre, dance, and of course, fabulous tutus.

I had the best time shopping on Fifth Avenue, trying on everything from bright coloured leg warmers to chunky platform boots. Even back then, they were obsessed with the bold, colourful style that tutus represent – a statement piece you can never have too much of.

Of course, no trip to New York is complete without catching a show. This time I went to the New York City Ballet, because what could be more exciting than watching ballerinas in exquisite tutus on stage? Their performance was pure magic! They danced like dreams and their costumes were absolutely exquisite. I particularly loved the intricate details on the tutus and the way the lights highlighted them. The combination of grace and glamour was simply breathtaking.

Now, what was going on in the world of ballet back in 1990? It was a golden era of ballet performances. One of the big stories this year was Rudolf Nureyev, a legend in the world of dance. He passed away in January 1993. So many dancers all over the world looked up to him and admired his artistic genius, He was famous for bringing passion, charisma, and an incredible artistry to every single performance he took part in. I can’t wait to go back and see him in action sometime, when I’m able to use my time machine to travel back even further!

I also managed to grab a copy of “Dance Magazine”. The article I loved most featured a new generation of ballerinas making their mark, many of whom have become legendary in the years since. It reminded me how much change there can be within such a short time in the world of ballet.

As always, my travels are funded by the wonderful ballet shows I perform in. And guess what? My latest act, inspired by this journey back to the 90s, features a combination of ‘Pretty Woman’ style, some dazzling 90s pop tunes, and some of the most magnificent pink tutus I have ever worn. It's definitely the perfect way to spread the tutu love and give the world a taste of how we can add some ‘pink-tutu-rific’ fun into the modern world.

You know I just can't get enough of vintage fashion! It’s so inspiring. If you want to recreate this 1990’s look yourself, get those leggings out and team them up with a bright and bold tunic, a great denim jacket, and of course, a tutu! Pink is the perfect colour, of course!

Join me again next week for another #TutuTuesday journey through time. I’m off now to put my next performance together, and to figure out how I can convince more people to wear a pink tutu!

Until next time! 💖🩰
