Hello darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, dedicated to all things pink and twirly! It’s Emma here, your resident tutu enthusiast, and I’m absolutely thrilled to be back for another #TutuTuesday.
Today, my lovelies, we’re taking a little trip back in time - but not just any time. We're going to the 2027-11-30! I’m telling you, that year is positively bursting with exciting developments in the ballet world.
For the uninitiated, you might be thinking, "Why 2027-11-30, Emma? What’s so special about it?” Well, let me tell you, my dears, this date marks the anniversary of a rather important event in ballet history.
… but first, let's talk tutus. Because we can never have too much tutu talk, can we?
Speaking of which, my latest obsession is the absolutely divine pink feather boa tutu I found in a vintage shop in Paris last week. Imagine the drama of the swirling feathers! The sheer elegance, the ethereal movement! Oh, to dance in a cloud of pink feathers - I just can't even. ?
Anyways, where was I? Oh yes! The ballet history.
Remember that magical, ethereal, breathtaking performance you saw at the Royal Ballet back in 2025? The one with the gorgeous new choreography based on the work of Tchaikovsky, the ballet composer extraordinaire? It was positively electrifying! The tutus, my dear, the tutus! So soft and airy, billowing with every turn, almost as though they had a life of their own! The whole performance felt like an incredible dream - a tribute to the past, the present, and a tutu-tastic glimpse into the future.
But why bring all of this up now? You're asking yourself! Well, my lovelies, I'm getting to the point, I promise. The very first performance of this show took place on November 30th, 2027. Imagine! It's like having a little piece of history, right at your fingertips! It reminds us that we are part of a vast, beautiful, ongoing story in dance. It’s the perfect reason to get out there and see some fabulous live ballet - it's the most exhilarating experience!
Now, speaking of the 2027-11-30 and history…
Did you know that 2027-11-30 also marks the anniversary of the first time the pas de bourrée was performed? It’s absolutely incredible, wouldn’t you agree? And I just can’t help but think that somehow this iconic movement almost mirrors the very essence of tutus: they're delicate, refined, graceful, and absolutely stunning.
Which, if I may, brings me neatly to our favourite topic: tutus.
Why did the pas de bourrée have to make such a dramatic entrance into the ballet world, and why were these incredible tutus designed specifically for that step? What would have happened had they chosen a chassé or a grand jeté? The whole history of ballet might have been entirely different! Just think about it! ?
And, dear reader, there's a whole host of other important dates and milestones for tutus to be discovered. But honestly, I’m so passionate about this topic that I could go on forever.
But enough about my nerdy historical ramblings… Let’s get back to tutus!
Now, imagine this: you’re in a grand theatre, velvet seats around you, the orchestra begins playing a stunning musical piece, and suddenly the curtains open, revealing a ballet performance that just takes your breath away. It’s incredible, isn’t it? The sheer power, grace, and emotion of dance, combined with the beauty of the dancers, all culminating in the magnificence of the tutus themselves.
That's what I call the magic of ballet.
Which leads me, beautifully, back to my challenge: I still believe, my dear lovelies, that the world would be a better place if everyone wore a pink tutu at least once! You can dress up in the fanciest gowns and suits, but there’s simply no substitute for that glorious twirling magic that only a tutu can bring! ✨
This weekend, I’m planning on catching the new production of "The Nutcracker," at the Birmingham Hippodrome, featuring some truly magnificent tutus. I'm going with my cousin Beatrice - a true ballet aficionado who’s equally addicted to all things tutus. I’ll be sure to report back to you all about it, my lovelies! You know, you can never have enough stories about beautiful tutus and thrilling ballet shows, can you?

Postscript: You may also be wondering how I fund my very time-traveling lifestyle? I'll admit, traveling from period to period takes a good amount of funds. I finance my adventures with a certain knack for predicting which performances and artists are going to be popular and by investing early in new talent! It turns out a life as a ballet-obsessed ballerina doesn't necessarily need to end when I've performed my final curtain call, but rather opens a new, even more magical chapter of business acumen! It's no wonder that some folks believe I can spot a breakout performance a mile away. Ssshh, let them think it's a sixth sense… ?
Also, I should mention the slightly unbelievable thing about my time travel… I don’t actually travel by time machine. I wouldn’t dare get caught in the crosshairs of all the “don’t disrupt the timeline” fuss and, well… honestly, I prefer the romance of train travel anyway! Just think about the dramatic views of the English countryside - it just inspires ballet and creative flow! sigh… *a beautiful train ride and a fabulous performance… *does life get any better? **
And, of course, my travels wouldn’t be the same without my trusty time-traveling handbag - complete with a selection of “era-appropriate” tutus, pink feather boas (I can never have too many!), and various fashion pieces - you never know where those will come in handy, darlings! ?
