Watford - Sparkle City!

Oh, my darlings! It's Pink Tutu Sparkles here, back with another juicy installment from my glamorous travels. Today, I'm channeling the sparkle of Watford! That's right, Watford - it's not just a place on the tube map, it's a place in my heart! You see, Watford, you are bursting with a vibrancy and a life that you might not think, with its quaint streets and classic British charm. I found a hidden treasure in this charming town: the Watford Palace Theatre! It's been on my list of places to see for a while, you see. It has such a rich history – just like yours truly – with a past intertwined with both theatrical legends and grand musicals. I found it a total joy to discover its lovely art deco charm and hear echoes of iconic stage performers that graced its hallowed halls before me!

So, imagine my delight when I got to wear my pinkest and most twirlingest tutu for a little show at Watford Market, which, in itself, was an utter joy to wander! It was filled with charming, vibrant stall holders and lovely families enjoying a sunny afternoon. Honestly, it felt like I’d stepped into a beautiful picture book – everyone was so friendly and full of life! I have to confess I spent quite a bit of time drooling over some of the stalls! (Don’t worry, dear blog followers, there’s a new dress pattern arriving soon on the Pink Tutu website.) But my heart, my dears, belongs to the market's stage where I spent my afternoon spinning with pure, unadulterated delight! I do believe I gave my tulle skirt quite a workout as I danced with all my usual energy. Let's just say it was an enchanting afternoon and definitely sparked a certain… twinkle… in my own tutu.

Before my show at the Market, I found time for some exploration. This little town is more charming than words can express. It's like a big hug wrapped in pretty Victorian architecture, you know? Just charming and quaint. Honestly, my darlings, the town reminded me of some of those beautiful cobbled Derbyshire streets in my home town. It was just so relaxing and delightful! I found myself happily taking in the shops - a little antique shop, a fantastic craft store filled with beautiful knitting supplies (you’ll see those being incorporated in future looks, my dears!), and even an intriguing little independent bookshop! This led to a rather spontaneous decision for a rather luxurious and delightful picnic lunch at The Little Room in The Bookshop Cafe, darling. Such a cosy and comforting space, filled with wonderful smells of hot chocolate and the comforting scent of old books! They even have an afternoon tea special - my favourite thing ever! But alas, I've a stage to fill! And what is the life of a queen without some glitter?

But, the real highlight of my trip was finding this gem called Watford Colosseum. Just as impressive and breathtaking as any theatre in London, but with this really intimate atmosphere that really felt special and unique! Oh, the memories of this magnificent theatre that dates back to 1937! Honestly, you'd be mad not to check it out, darling! Imagine yourself twirling on its majestic stage under that huge, beautiful dome, shimmering in a dress full of sequins and a cloud of tulle… A queen’s dream! (My tutu wardrobe is definitely being added to… I believe there may be an upcoming "Watford Glamour" look, my lovelies.)

Of course, I could never leave a town like this without adding a few trinkets to my bag. So, of course, I popped in a cute little shop and, yes, I ended up buying the most darling pink flamingo figurine with a pink tutu! It’s sitting on my dressing table right now. I may be biased, but she looks absolutely fab! I also, my loves, picked up some rather exquisite vintage ballet shoes to add to my collection of footwear. One of the stall holders was also, as luck would have it, a ballet fan! It seems everyone in Watford has a secret love of dance, I’ve never encountered so many enthusiastic tutus lovers in one place. It just went to show me that it’s not all about glitz and glamour! The secret to enjoying your life, my dears, is to embrace every little detail! It's about enjoying the small, quaint moments of beauty as well as the spectacular grandeur! It's a real testament to why we’re all a part of one big, glittering family! We are all different colours, my lovelies, but, darling, that is just what makes the world so beautiful! We sparkle in different ways, and each person has their own unique beauty that deserves to shine.

Speaking of which, I can’t forget about my fabulous show at The Rose & Crown pub in Watford! Let me tell you, this is no ordinary pub. It's a beautiful traditional, but so stylish, kind of space that made me feel like I had been whisked away into a magical wonderland! But, let me tell you, it was an experience that’s got me truly beaming, as I write these words, a little twinkle in my eye, you might even say. You can bet that I brought the Pink Tutu Sparkles to this vibrant establishment. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Well, I might be stretching the truth, darling, but there was a good amount of giggling. I was feeling quite proud of myself!

After such a vibrant day, it was time for my evening. You guessed it, more dancing! And the beauty of travelling with a train pass is I get to get a first class ride back to London. After all, the queen has her comfort! It was wonderful to watch the towns fade in and out as the sun began to set. Watching the landscape transform is such a beautiful reminder of just how grand life is, even when you’re sitting on a train in the English countryside! But, it also gave me time to relax and reflect, darling, which is important after a truly glorious day. Oh, Watford! You left your sparkle in my heart, I promise to return. And maybe next time I'll try that fancy horse-drawn carriage I saw taking someone for a romantic ride!

For those of you in the know, you know this trip was for one reason and one reason only: to learn a new ballet routine. I can't wait to tell you more, my lovelies. But you have to promise to be ready to embrace my latest creation: Pink Tutu Sparkles - Watford Remix! (Hint hint… I will be rocking a feather boa. That’s all you’re getting!)

Until next time, my lovely glitter-loving companions! Stay sparkling!

Your truly,

Pink Tutu Sparkles

(P.S. Did you know that the official colour of the town of Watford is… yes you guessed it, pink! And can I say this, a little secret about Alex – he absolutely loved his time at university and got hooked on pink tutus, believe it or not, by a rather unlikely inspiration… charity! It was all a little dramatic but the rest, they say, is history!)
