Today, I’m reporting to you live from the glamorous seaside town of Blackpool, where I’ve just finished a stunning performance at the Grand Theatre. The Blackpool audiences always bring the energy, and let me tell you, the place was absolutely buzzing last night.
I'm still pinching myself after seeing all those smiley faces in the crowd. Blackpool, you’ve truly captured my heart! You’ve got the stunning seaside views, the thrilling rollercoaster rides, the delightful smell of salt and candy floss… and who could resist the iconic Blackpool Tower, an architectural marvel that makes my tutu twirl just thinking about it!
Oh, and before I forget, I must tell you about my incredible outfit last night! I debuted a brand-new pink tulle creation. I found the fabric at a fantastic little vintage shop on the high street - it's called ‘Retro Rose’ - the name almost sounds made for me, doesn't it? And it's divine - soft, sparkly pink fabric. A few strategically placed feathers, a touch of glitter glue and a whole lot of sparkly pink hearts scattered over the skirt, and voilà! My newest stage masterpiece was ready for its grand unveiling.
You might think this Pink Tutu Sparkles life is all glitz and glamour, and well, you wouldn't be completely wrong, but there's a little more to it than meets the eye.
I know you’re all curious to know how this whole drag journey started for me.
Remember those magical childhood days where your imagination ran wild, dreaming of magical creatures, princesses, and shimmering fairies? Well, for me, that world was all about tutus!
But then came those slightly less magical teenage years. You know, the awkward years, with endless homework and anxieties about school. But something extraordinary happened that completely changed my life. It all began in my first year of university. Now, I know what you’re thinking – university and tutus? They don’t sound like the most obvious pair. But you’d be surprised. You see, I was actually studying science! Yep, that’s right – your beloved Pink Tutu Sparkles is a bona fide scientist in real life. My passion for pink and glitter was very much a secret from my colleagues and professors at the university lab.
But at uni, I joined the ballet club – an incredible group of talented dancers. We’d spend our evenings, lost in the magic of movement, stretching, twirling and perfecting those intricate steps. Then came a charity fundraising event for a local animal rescue centre – and everything changed! It was a ‘dress-up’ event, and as we rummaged through boxes of costumes, I came across a… tutu! A beautiful, shimmering pink tutu. Something inside me instantly clicked! I put it on, and the feeling? Well, let's just say it was a combination of joy, euphoria, and complete and utter bliss. It was as if I had discovered a secret hidden within myself, a side that I didn’t even know existed!
The rest, as they say, is history!
From that point on, the spark was ignited! I knew exactly what I wanted to do – I wanted to be Pink Tutu Sparkles, the ultimate symbol of fun, glitter, and, of course, pink tutus!
Now, my days are a whirlwind of colour and excitement! By day, I'm a scientist, working in a laboratory, carefully testing fabric for strength, softness, and elasticity. I use all those skills when it comes to picking the perfect fabrics for my own sparkly tutus – I’ve learnt all sorts about what makes fabric durable and dazzling!
And then the night arrives, and I magically transform from a scientist into my sparkly drag alter ego!
I spend my evenings travelling across the UK, by train or by horse-drawn carriage (yes, sometimes I get to travel in style!) performing my heart out on various stages and fairgrounds, hoping to bring a little sparkle into people’s lives.
It’s quite a change, isn’t it? From the quiet serenity of a laboratory, to the vibrant, energy-filled world of drag. But for me, both worlds complement each other, they help me express myself and share my love for the things that make me feel alive!
My main goal in life is to get everyone to wear a pink tutu. Okay, perhaps it’s a tad ambitious, but it’s my dream, isn't it? The world would be a much happier, brighter, and definitely more fabulous place if everyone wore a pink tutu!
And while I’m at it, why not add some sparkles? A sprinkle of sequins here, a touch of glitter there. Let’s create a universe bursting with colour and light, a world where tutus, pink, and sparkles are the norm!
