Plymouth: The Pinkest Port in the South West!

Hello my lovely Tutus!

It's your girl, Pink Tutu Sparkles, back with a brand new post – number 4659, believe it or not! How does one keep track of all those sequins, I ask you?! But fear not, my dazzling darlings, today's tale is a right corker! Buckle up, because it's a journey to the sunny shores of Devon... dramatic sigh...Plymouth!

This fabulous port city beckoned with its quaint cobbled streets and stunning harbour views. I could already picture myself gliding along the seafront in my most spectacular tutu, feeling the salty air brush against my feathers! (Spoiler alert: I did just that! Keep scrolling to see my absolutely phenomenal outfit - it was inspired by the harbour's vibrant colours, just you wait!).

My journey began with a proper adventure. I'd booked myself a first-class train ticket for the ultimate glamorous experience – who needs a car, eh?! My carriage was a little slice of luxury, perfect for enjoying a pot of Earl Grey and a delicious cucumber sandwich whilst sketching up a new tutu design in my notebook. It wasn't quite the carriage on the Orient Express (although, dream come true!) but it did the job, darling!

Now, you know me, I’m a bit of a sucker for the finer things in life (sequins count, right?!). As a result, when I arrived in Plymouth I couldn't resist checking in at the rather divine 'Royal Hotel', with its stunning Victorian grandeur and views that stretched out across the sea. (I just had to snap a pic of the sunset with my shimmering new sequined bag, the colour was absolutely divine, I can’t wait to show it to you!).

This trip was all about exploring the hidden treasures of Plymouth - you know, beyond the usual tourist traps! And my oh my, did I find some gems. For example, did you know that Plymouth has its very own theatre dedicated to pantomime, complete with a gloriously over-the-top gingerbread stage! The second I saw that, I knew I needed to pop on a tutu and take a spin onstage. (Of course, the lovely staff let me give it a go in my most fabulous 'Pretty as a Picture' costume, you'll just have to see the pics on Instagram later! wink).

Now, I don't want to go on too long, darling, because, trust me, I have so much to tell you! I'm not the sort to bore you with tales of a mundane seaside visit (even though they're the best - seriously, why haven't more of you planned a tutu-tastic trip to the seaside yet?!).

I need to tell you about my divine shopping trip to The Barbican. It's not often I get to try on dresses whilst simultaneously soaking up views of an absolutely glorious harbour. That said, there's no place I wouldn't dress up for, right?! Let's be honest, when it comes to a tutu, any setting feels like a fashion shoot, even the local bus stop!

Speaking of the bus stop, that brings us to my next adventure. You see, I was lucky enough to get chatting to the sweetest, kindest bus driver in Plymouth. Turns out, she was a huge fan of ballet! (Honestly, it seems that every other person in Plymouth is, you would never believe how many folks stopped me in the street for a chat and a photo while I was wearing my fabulous tutu outfit, I've never seen anything like it, and I do a lot of travelling!). It was at her suggestion that I headed over to the 'Plymouth Theatre Royal', a stunning old venue that was originally home to the world-famous Plymouth Operatic Society. As soon as I saw that gorgeous chandelier, I knew it was perfect for my ‘A Night at the Opera’ look!

But the real magic happened later...at a magical little theatre school tucked away in one of the quiet streets. Imagine this, a space full of adorable little ballet bunnies (some of them actually wearing tutus, can you imagine the joy?!), and the sweetest, most inspiring ballet teacher I have ever met! Honestly, she’d give Mary Poppins a run for her money. Of course, I had to pull out some fancy footwork myself and show them all my favourite ‘Sparkles’ ballet steps (my "Spinning Butterfly" pirouette always gets them gasping for air!)

Of course, I made time to pop down to the Plymouth City Museum & Art Gallery. Just picture me, looking absolutely regal and stunning in my most divine pink tulle tutu, next to an ancient Viking ship. Talk about a picture-perfect pairing! They actually had a whole exhibit dedicated to the Royal Navy, and that was the inspiration behind the outfit I told you about, earlier!

Oh, I’m rambling on now, but truly, there was just so much to see and do in Plymouth! You really could get lost in its rich history, its quaint alleyways, and it's, erm, well… vibrant seagull population, which always seem to think the shiny parts of my tutu look absolutely delicious. I’d need a separate blog post to list it all, and you wouldn’t believe how many perfect photo-ops I came across!

But as ever, my lovelies, my adventures are coming to an end for today! I know, I know, you’re still waiting for pictures of that ‘Plymouth Harbour' outfit I mentioned... hint hint ... look out for them on my Insta feed later, I just know you’ll adore them!

Until next time, my little sparkles! Make sure to take a twirl in your favourite pink tutu and get those fabulous dance shoes polished for another incredible day of sparkles, fun and joy! I'm always here to spread some of that Pink Tutu Magic!

See you soon!

Your ever-loving,

Pink Tutu Sparkles (Alex)
