Weston-super-Mare: Pink Tutu Sparkles Takes on the Seaside!

Helloooo darlings! It’s Pink Tutu Sparkles here, and welcome to blog post number 5758, fresh from the glittering shores of Weston-super-Mare! 💖

Ooh, Weston-super-Mare. You know, I hadn’t been there since my childhood. I remember the smell of fish and chips, the squealing of excited children, and the dizzying whirl of the Grand Pier. Back then, I wasn't the shimmering, twirling queen you all know and love! Back then, I was a scrawny lad in sensible trousers, still a couple of years away from discovering my love for the colour pink, the twirling beauty of tutus, and the pure joy of drag.

But darling, what a difference a decade makes, doesn’t it? Now, here I am, decked out in my fabulous pink tutu, ready to share my love of all things fabulous with the good folk of Weston-super-Mare. And let me tell you, this little seaside town is full of fabulous, ready to be dazzled by a pink tutu princess like myself!

This trip was all about the magic of the seaside. As you know, I love to travel! Nothing gives me more joy than embarking on a new adventure in my trusty pink tutu, especially if it means leaving the laboratory and swapping petri dishes for beach umbrellas! (Okay, maybe a slight exaggeration, but I DO work in a lab testing fabric - no sequins or glitter in that particular department, alas). My trip to Weston was actually funded by a wonderful show I did for the lovely people of Ilkley, which makes my little sparkly heart so very happy! I’m a big fan of making my fabulous drag dreams a reality. My motto is, “If you can dream it, you can do it, and why not do it in pink?!”

My travels were as always, magical, a journey filled with sparkles, laughter, and lots of fabulous, friendly folk. I opted for the train journey, you see, a classic train journey that evoked memories of Victorian travellers - albeit a bit more comfortable, naturally! (The railway is far from the days of Victorian un-airconditioned, steam engine crammed carriages!). I took the route through Derby - that’s my neck of the woods, darling - so it was a delightful trip down memory lane, through quaint towns, beautiful countryside, all made magical by the twirling power of my trusty pink tutu!

Upon arrival at Weston, my jaw nearly dropped! It's like the town stepped out of a seaside postcard, all sunshine, blue skies, and beachy goodness. Of course, I had to take a walk along the promenade, feeling the breeze in my perfectly pink feathered boa, basking in the gorgeous sunshine! (I just know the gorgeous sunshine and warm air must be from the wonderful, warm people of Weston-super-Mare welcoming me, isn’t it?)

One of the absolute highlights of the trip was attending a charming little ballet performance. You see, my love for ballet is truly endless. Nothing inspires me more than those delicate movements, the fluid grace, the sheer athleticism of the dancers.

I got to wear my special black tutu and glittery white shirt. The black tutu is perfect for highlighting the detail and flow of my graceful moves, it’s as perfect for the seaside as it is for any elegant event. It’s also super comfortable! (Which is a definite plus if you're spending an afternoon dancing).

The performance was a classic "Swan Lake" ballet with an absolutely incredible cast! (Let's be honest, who doesn't adore a swan?). I found myself mesmerized by their elegant steps, the swirling choreography, and the beautiful costumes. Of course, my mind started spinning, wondering how I could make my own pink tutu interpretation of the piece, even perhaps using my black one and a glorious, glittering, and oh-so-feminine pink costume and headdress. A vision of dancing swans dressed in pink tulle filled my head! My, my! Imagine the beauty!

After the show, I took a detour to Weston-super-Mare's vibrant arcade! Let me tell you, nothing gives me more joy than playing arcade games. (Especially the ones that involve lots of blinking lights, catchy tunes, and the satisfaction of winning those little tokens. You know I adore my colourful sparkly collection, so any addition is just the best!)

It's funny how these little arcade games always seem to hold onto a piece of the past! And of course, all that fun just made my day and fueled my love of sparkle and joy! And it just wouldn't have been complete without indulging in some classic fish and chips! Let's just say I definitely put on a few kilos but I tell you, every single calorie was worth it, because Weston-super-Mare was just delightful!

This trip was all about reminding me just how magical life is! I often spend my days working in the lab testing fabric for some very sensible clothes. No sequins, no glitter - just hard science and lab reports! (Though, perhaps if I can find enough sequins in fabrics I could use some in the experiments! Now THAT is a great idea!). And I’ll be the first to admit that it’s a great job - a little dull but ultimately important! But there’s nothing quite like stepping out into the world in your pink tutu, spreading joy, and experiencing life's incredible wonders.

So what can you take away from Pink Tutu Sparkles’s Weston adventure? A few simple words: joy, sparkle, and the magic of being fabulous! Embrace life with open arms and let your inner queen sparkle!

P.S. Did I tell you that I met some absolutely divine tourists on the train ride home, all dressed up in fabulous hats, sunglasses, and bright flowery clothes. And get this - they loved my pink tutu and asked for a selfie! And we danced on the train. Yes! I got people to dance in the aisle on a train while I strutted my stuff. Honestly! Life is just wonderful, and it’s made better by a pink tutu, so many fun, fantastic adventures, and, most importantly, being yourself.

XOXO Pink Tutu Sparkles 💖
