Helloooo my fabulous darlings! It's your girl Pink Tutu Sparkles, and guess what? It's time for another blog post, number 7091, from your favourite pink tutu-loving drag queen! I'm still buzzing from my amazing time in Kettering - you wouldn't believe the amount of tutus I saw! 😉
Today, we're taking a little trip down memory lane, back to the 31st of May, 2019. Now, that day was a right treat! It was a glorious summer day, and the air was alive with the anticipation of my Kettering debut. I travelled by train, naturally, and as usual, I had my fabulous tutu bag, overflowing with glitter, hairspray, and enough pink to make a flamingo blush.
Kettering was everything I'd hoped for, a little haven of welcoming faces and a true love of performance! I popped into the local tea shop for a quick cuppa and a scone before heading to the venue. You wouldn't believe the amount of pink I managed to squeeze into that tea shop - not only was I rocking my fabulous tutu (which, of course, was pink, with added sparkles, because when in Kettering, right?) but my scarf, my hat, and even my handbag were all shades of the most beautiful, feminine pink imaginable. I even managed to sneak a peek at their cake selection - it looked absolutely divine, although sadly I was on a mission and couldn't succumb to its charms!
I had a brilliant gig! It was one of those magical performances that you can feel in the air, where the energy is crackling and the audience is totally with you. Honestly, the love and laughter from those fabulous people were worth more than all the sequins in the world. And of course, I made sure everyone got a taste of my ‘Pink Tutu Sparkle’ magic! There were glittery games, twirls galore, and even a couple of surprise impromptu tutu-wearing moments for the audience – you should have seen their faces! The absolute highlight? A little girl, barely six years old, rushed up to me after the show, holding a pink sparkly pencil she'd made in class especially for me. Honestly, you could have knocked me over with a feather! It was at that moment I knew I was doing exactly what I was meant to be doing - bringing a bit of sparkle and joy to the world, one pink tutu at a time!
The journey back to Derbyshire was just as lovely. It's the little things, you know, the fresh air blowing through my pink tulle skirt, the birdsong accompanying my humming along to the tunes in my headphones. Ah, blissful memories.
Speaking of memories, do you remember how my obsession with pink tutus started? You wouldn’t believe this… it all happened back when I was a bright young student, pursuing a degree in something utterly sensible like chemistry. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the science side, but deep down I was a born performer!
I found myself in the university’s ballet club, being pulled into the enchanting world of twirling, leaping, and beautiful graceful movement. One afternoon, the club was hosting a charity event. I can still see it so clearly – there was a massive box filled with tutus and leotards, remnants from a production. A voice inside whispered, ‘Try it on, Alex’. So, I did. I mean, you just had to see what was inside this crazy, magnificent box.
You wouldn’t believe the sheer shock and joy I felt as I put on my first ever tutu. It was pink! Not just any pink, mind you, it was the most gloriously vibrant, shocking pink ever. The world seemed to tilt on its axis. The moment that tutu touched my skin, something in me clicked, a sense of belonging, a spark of true joy. It felt so utterly feminine and full of life, like something truly magical. The best part? All the guys were cheering me on – those dancing lads loved their flamboyant diva!
That one pink tutu, well, it literally changed my world. Suddenly, everything seemed brighter, more vibrant, and full of possibilities. From that moment on, I knew I was destined to spread the joy of tutus to the world, one glitter-filled twirl at a time. That was when Pink Tutu Sparkles was born!
You see, while Alex might be busy in a lab during the day, analysing fabrics for strength and performance, by night I transform into Pink Tutu Sparkles! I’m spreading the message of confidence, acceptance, and of course, the glorious wonder of pink tutus! It’s a truly liberating experience - and the laughter from audiences just fuels my mission to encourage everyone to embrace their own inner sparkle!
Honestly, life is just more fun when you wear a tutu! And the journey of a pink tutu-loving drag queen?
