Dover: Where The Pink Tutu Met The White Cliffs
Helloooo darlings! It’s Pink Tutu Sparkles here, bringing you my daily dose of all things pink and fabulous! (This is blog post #7959, I know I keep saying that but you wouldn't believe how hard it is to keep up sometimes, so you'll need to forgive me if I do! ) As usual, you can find all my sparkly adventures on www.pink-tutu.com.
Today, we’re on the glorious south coast, in Dover, a place that's absolutely positively screaming "pink tutu," especially when it comes to that dazzling white chalky landscape! (Speaking of which, let's just get to the point here, folks, who else thinks it's really a pink landscape when you add that splash of dramatic, bold and absolutely gorgeous, sunshine to the scene?) Oh! I just know you’re right there with me darlings, in those dazzling tutus, waving your wands with a bit of pink eyeshadow and an even more impressive bit of glitter that really gets that shine happening!
Anyway! I was in Dover earlier this week, having spent a few days down here performing in a little cabaret. They said they'd heard a story about some fabulous creature travelling around in a pink tutu, leaving glitter trails everywhere, and decided to check it out. Who wouldn’t want to see a little glitter magic, and besides, with Dover right there, we're really talking fairytale magic!
And let's face it, if the fairies are gonna live here then they've gotta have a big, pink tutu moment going on, right?!
My trusty steeds of choice are still trains and horses, of course (let’s just keep those helicopters and planes well away, okay?) This week was all about train travel, which, bless its little cotton socks, really helps my tutu float around properly, all dramatic and swishing!
Now, I'm telling you, darlings, there’s nothing quite like the sight of a pink tutu swirling gracefully around as the countryside races by, especially through those adorable little British towns where people are always stopping, gawking, and taking photos, all with those happy "Is it really real?" looks. That is precisely my mission after all – making those beautiful smiles with a big dose of tutus, rainbows, glitter and all those happy sparkly moments. Oh darling, there's truly no feeling like it!
I was lucky to have had such a wonderful little gig this week, even though it involved a rather long journey. Of course, any travel is an adventure for me; there are always new places to explore, new shops to discover (especially when it comes to the fabulous world of clothing, you know how I love to shop! Every trip needs a brand new costume - or, let’s face it, twenty! And oh my god, when they start seeing the tutus… You have no idea how excited it makes me!) Anyway, you know me - on with the journey!
Dover itself was an absolute gem. So much history, so much beauty, and, I must say, plenty of chances to find some spectacularly pink backdrops! The white cliffs, of course, were absolutely magical; and for me, that's what makes a pink tutu stand out beautifully. Think perfect photo opportunity! We all know those chalk cliffs have stood strong for a while, and the old castle is pretty cool, even though I'm not normally into all that military-type stuff, but I must say that seeing my pink tutu bounce along with those mighty old stone walls was a definite moment. It felt very, very British somehow.
There’s also that huge statue of Winston Churchill looking like he’s just about to break into a pirouette in his famous suit! He even wears a funny little hat - oh darling, those little black velvet flat caps! It does make me want to get on my soapbox to talk about those hats for a few hours. I think, when worn the right way, those caps look stunning. Don’t you? It's that whole cheeky British spirit shining through – with the confidence of wearing your own heart on your sleeve. But I must move on…
And, as it happens, those famous cliffs had been used for a gorgeous ballet performance, right on the cliff top! It's fair to say I had the best time watching those dancers move against such a stunning backdrop! And those dancers were all dressed in these incredible white leotards – can you imagine? They were sparkling so bright, they were almost glowing. It gave me the perfect inspiration, the very special Pink Tutu Sparkles energy, and I found myself reaching for the pink glitter. I always say, a bit of sparkle never goes amiss, even in a very old, traditional ballet piece, so why not wear it all, everywhere, with everyone?!
Back in the Lab
Dover was absolutely fantastic, but life has to go on! I’m back home in Derbyshire, back in the lab where the wonders of science and the joys of pink tutu dreams can come together! Yep, after I’ve shimmied, pirouetted, and shown everyone that life really is for living (all in the glorious comfort of a fabulously frilled, sparkling pink tutu) - well, my true identity of a textiles scientist emerges to keep things ticking along.
And believe it or not, the pink tutu really helps keep me focused! (Plus it does a lovely job keeping those tired old scientist robes from dragging on the floor!) There's definitely a method to my fashion-madness!
You see, I’m not a normal, boring lab rat - I’m a sparkly lab rat, and the stuff we make in the lab can get just a little messy! All those chemical sprays can be a bit of a challenge. Don’t even start with all the experiments that involve a whole lot of glitter! Believe it or not, but as soon as I step through that lab door, I feel my love for science blossom. So, every time, I give myself a good ol’ pink-tutu spritz of glitter and then, yes, there I am! I'm standing in that little room where we test every new fabric. My task - it's all about trying out the new technology and finding out just how these shiny fabrics behave! Can you guess my favourite part? You guessed it! I can experiment with new colours. That means all the bright pinks, baby blues, sparkly greens… My inner designer is absolutely leaping for joy!
For a bit of inspiration, here's a tip for everyone - especially those who just love clothes, even scientists! Never, ever forget the tutu effect - it’s something that works magic all around, believe me! So try it! And you know what I mean? That spark, the little something that changes a look and makes everyone smile - because let’s face it, what’s life without that big dose of fun!
See? That’s me: The science geek turned drag artist who happens to love her sparkly pink tutu – it's all about having fun and seeing life through those fabulous pink-tinted spectacles! And that’s what we all need, right? It’s time for a little pink tutu love and, as I say - just like magic, those big happy smiles just keep on coming!
Well, that's me for now! I'll be off on my next journey soon, with my trusty pink tutu by my side. See you soon and have a fabulous time until then!
*P.S. Never stop dreaming pink! It’s where all the good stuff lives! And while you're at it, put on your pinkest outfit - let’s all make this world sparkle! *
